Jtoneller1 wrote:Give me your take on this scenario. After the first two months of the season, the Raps have surprised many by being over five hundred. The starting lineup is excellent defensively and is showing improved efficiency offensively by leading the league in FTAs. Ujiri decides to move forward with Lowry, DeRozan, Gay, and JV as the "core" (I know how unpopular this line of thinking is). Gay opts out and resigns a five year deal worth $ 60 million. Lowry signs for 5 years and $35 million. Around the same time, Milwaukee is floundering at the bottom of the Eastern conference. Their back court of inefficient, volume shooters is struggling to incorporate their bigs and they decide to tank for a stacked draft. The one thing Toronto is missing from the starting lineup is a floor spacer. Ilyasova is one of the better "stretch 4s" in the game and actually rebounds/play defence. Ujiri offers this trade:

Toronto: Amir Johnson, Terrance Ross, 2016 First Round Pick (NYK)
Milwaukee: Ersan Ilyasova

Why for Toronto? They could the perfect compliment to their starting wings and address a major weakness in their starting lineup without losing much defensively. Ilyasova can draw defenders away from the rim, giving Rudy and DD less obstacles on their way to the rack. JV gets more room to operate in the paint.

Why for Milwaukee? They are currently on the outside-looking-in in terms of the Eastern playoff race. In order to secure a high pick in the draft, they need to ship out one of their best, highest-paid players. Amir Johnson would give them a high-energy four-man who could start or come of the bench for Henson (who now gets more PT to develop). Terrence Ross is a high-upside pick who could see lots of time behind Mayo. The first-rounder helps with the rebuild project.

Toronto Lineup:

PG: Lowry/Buycks
SG: DeRozan/Fields
SF: Gay/Novak
PF: Ilyasova/Hansbrough
C: Valanciunas/Gray

Milwaukee Lineup: (Tanking)

PG: Knight/Ridnour
SG: Mayo/Ross
SF: Butler/Delfino
PF: Henson/Johnson
C: Sanders/Pachulia

See that's not bad good sir, I'm gunna give u an intelligent poster gold star, and maybe even if Milwaukee isn't a trade destination, but looking at this season as u do is the only way to fight the tank, with all the new coaching staff and front office ppl I really think that even tho BC's players are still in town his Era is over. I feel behind the scenes in Toronto for the past 7 years has be in total disorder. And the BC Era is forsure over and will be shown after the first 20 games.

Defence, hard nosed team.

I wanna see something like...

Lin + Horford : Toronto

Assik + Ross + picks : Atlanta

Lowry + filler to Houston.

Houston gets cap relief to reup parsons this summer before the poison year kicks in on lin + assik leaving them in lux tax hell. Get to remain competitive this year.

Atlanta gets a decent return for Horford. Assik + Milsap is a great starting front court to build on to.

We get a starting line up of

Lin
Demar
Rudy
Horford
Val.

Lowry/Amir for Boozer, CHA 1st rounder, and CHI's choice of their 2014 first or the rights to Mirotic

why Chicgo - They save 2.5mil against their cap while strengthening their bench. If they decide to keep the rights to Mirotic, they now have the cap savings to buy him out next summer and bring him over. They then have Amir's expiring to flip for another asset to replace Lowry if they let him walk.

why Toronto - Boozer helps the Raps lose now, he's always in and out of the lineup with injuries and doesn't play defense. 2015 sets up as the cap space summer with Gay, Boozer and Fields coming off the cap, plus the Raps are now fairly asset rich (Their own 2014, 2015 firsts, CHA 2014 first (unprotected in 2016), CHI 2014 first rounder or Mirotic, and NYK 2016 first ).

Troubadour wrote:All of the possible Rudy Gay landing spots (as far as I can tell)

Milwaukee Bucks
Trade: Rudy Gay, Quincy Acy
Return: Caron Butler (expiring), Ekpe Udoh (expiring), Giannis Antetokounmpo

We get a guy with a great last name. Jonas and Caron Butler have to play together. Lots of expirings. Milwaukee makes a panic trade to make the playoffs.

Sacramento Kings
Trade: Rudy Gay
Return: Jason Thompson, John Salmons (UNG)

Jason Thompson is actually not a bad player and he's on a reasonable contract. John Salmons can be waived. Sacramento was about to sign Igoudala, so they're not exactly shying away from taking on veteran talent.

Portland Trailblazers
Trade: Rudy Gay
Return: Nicolas Batum, Joel Freeland

This is a move Portland makes to keep Aldridge. Nothing more, nothing less. Batum's contract is also a little bloated and at least a year longer than Gay's.

Dallas Mavericks
Trade: Rudy Gay
Return: Shawn Marion, Vince Carter, Renaldo Balkman, Jae Crowder

Here's my favourite deal. Shawn Marion AND Vince Carter come home. Jae Crowder is also a nice piece. Mavericks make this move because of the whole zig-zag philosophy Cuban was talking about over the summer.

Good job proposing fair deals. I don't think the Batum one is a big possibility, POR has no reason to prefer Gay to him. The other ones are pure cap dumps which I feel Gay more have more value than

I'm trying to figure out a way to trade Gay to MIN for Derrick Williams centered package but the salaries are tricky. If they traded all of Williams, Brewer, Budinger, Barea at the deadline it would work but I don't see MIN decimating their roster like that.

I also think Gay for Monroe is an actual possibility.

MIN gets Jason Thompson for Derrick Williams

SAC gets Rudy Gay for John Salmons, Jason Thompson, Travis Outlaw

TOR gets Derrick Williams, John Salmons, Travis Outlaw for Rudy Gay

Timberwolves get a 3rd big more complimentary to their lineup. Toronto gets a young PF of the future in Williams and cap relief. Kings owners make a splash by grabbing Gay.

Washington gets Rudy Gay

Toronto gets Nene, Otto Porter

Porter is a lot of value to give up, but Washington also dumps Nene's contract which is one of the league's worst. Toronto gets a young advanced stats friendly SF

That literally makes no sense whatsoever for Chicago. At all.

I highly doubt ATL gives up Horford for that but would love to have him here.

Also that would work out pretty damn good for our supposed plan for 2016 as both Rudy + Lin would expire and we would have $33M off the books for 2015...grab Rondo in 2015 offseason, hunt Durant in 2016 go in lux tax...and in 2013 wake up and realize that we're just dreaming :(

Wish I could think of a good way to get Rondo...love his game and he would help Val a ton.

I doubt Milwaukee would trade for Rudy and give up the African Greek kid for what would
most likely be a rental.

I think Washington and possibly Denver could be potential landing spots.

Talk about this trade on the thread this summer. He wouldn't be a rental( isnt he from there)either so it makes sense.Raps get a sf that can possibly be a starter for the future, and Nene would be a good back up since the raps are short on reliable big man.

This not bad trade either be better if raps threw in Lowery for Vasquiz.

You shut down Rondo rest of the season to rehab his knee. We go into the tank with DJ as the starter.

We make a big 3 of Rondo - Wiggins - Val

That's a lousy return for Boston. I think they can get more value/picks for Rajon. I'd also like to see him play minus the Big 3 and see how he fares.

For Boston it continues with their theory of blowing it all up. The get out of the Rondo contract and still have the massive Humphries expiring to make a follow up deal.

If they make that deal I think at the end of the season the only contracts they are left with are Jeff Green and Gerald Wallace (this off the top of my head - haven't seen their salary situation closely).

With the loss of Pierce/Garnett - pretty much the only offensive player is Jeff Green so putting a guy like Lowry where he could actually be a 20/5/5 Scoring Point Guard - it might be of benefit for both sides.

It comes down to 2 things:

1) Will Rondo be the same player he was post-injury
2) Rondo can't shoot so who is going to pass to? Gerald Wallace? Kris Humphries?

While true, Rondo still hold's a ton of value. If Derrick Rose can return to his old self Boston will use that as leverage when dealing Rondo. His teammates don't really matter because Boston is tanking and everyone has seen what he can do on a good squad.

If Boston deals Rondo I'd be shocked if a 2014 first rounder isn't going back to the Celts. Clearing capspace is great for a rebuilding team, but you need to get better assets than Udoh and Lowry when trading a PG who's easily in the top 5-7 at his position league-wide.
