For those who missed it, J. Michael (IndyStar Pacers beat writer) was on JMV today in Indy and had a few interesting nuggets to say about Vic and other Pacers news:

— Mentioned that he didn’t think Vic would command an All-Star in return unless packaged with Myles and mentioned this could possibly occur

—- Pacers will need to decide if they want someone who can help them compete immediately or a draft pick who can help down the road

— Michael mentioned that he was told the Pacers were more in favor of an established player versus a rookie, pick or younger player with potential

— He noted that multiple teams coveted Myles and mentioned the Wizards by name and that Turner may not be valued as much by Pacer fans, but that other teams valued him

— Suggested that Myles had more trade value than Vic at this point

On Twitter, DHackett has pushed idea of the Fred S&T plus Norm plus baggage for VO and Turner. It solves a lot of problems, including the risk of Norm picking up his PO in 2021. I'd feel a lot more secure about that then simply letting Fred go for a guy (VO) who may not be as good as Fred right now, may never again recover his former ability, and will have to be renounced in 2021 if Raps need space to sign a max FA.

But by trading for both Turner and VO, if they both pan out, the Raps have more assets in what might turn out to be an S&T for Giannis. As long as Raps retain the space to sign Giannis outright, the Bucks will happily take some positive assets in return - e.g. Durant trade to Nets.

But with Brogdon, are the Pacers really looking for a guy like Fred? And does Fred want to go to Indiana? It is close to home, and in his last interview he said something about recognizing the importance of family.

I think by importance of family he meant getting the loot to take care of his fam. Covid taught him that basketball and his source of income could stop anytime. Hell go where the money is. It all depends on if Indy is willing to pay him the loot

Fred would have to WANT to go there for a sign and trade. I don't see why he would.

Which leaves us with a s&t Fred for Oladipo trade as our only option.

Questions
1) Would the Raptors do the trade? What are the risks involved? What are our options?
2) Would the Pacers do it?
3) Would Fred do it?

1) No.
2) Yes.
3) No. He'd be pissed off and steer his own course for more money.

Why would Fred be pissed? He’d go to a playoff team that’s far better run than the Knicks or pistons. There’s a starting guard spot available for him to slide into. They’d have to pay him north of 20M to make a s&t work.

If the raptors aren’t resigning him, what options does he have?

why wouldnt he? he pairs well with bogdan and indiana are a good team, he'll be a starter on a really good team. His other options are the knicks and pistons... he has a chance to live close to home on a good team and if they pay him the same as he would get elsewhere why not.

I like dipo, however always concerned about taking on any player who has missed significant time due to injury, especially in multiple seasons.

adding dipo/turner and losing norm/fred wouldn't compromise our capspace next fa-period, right?

if it's not affected, i'd do that deal in a heartbeat. turner is still only 24 and fits the timeline. his 3 pt shooting dipped a bit this season and he's not the most prolific rebounder but you could do a lot worse looking for a young replacement for gasol/ibaka.

lowry
dipo
OG
siakam
Turner

that's not too bad at all

I think a 4 year deal with the 4th being a player option would be appealing to FVV. Fred should know that the Raptors are aiming for Giannis in 2021 and would like to keep flexibility. Fred can come back with JV in a few years.

I really think that New Orleans should go all in with their assets to get Turner. Zion can go inside and grab boards.

New Orleans moves the timeline to compete and sends prospect Jaxson Hayes and maybe Hart and picks.

I have faith that Dipo could get back to his old self but if you can get Turner too, you do it.

I've mentioned the Dipo and Turner trade several times, and now it looks like they can be packaged together. Helps that Indy wants an established player.

Lowry/Dipo/OG/Siakam/Turner

Number 1 defense next season, and an upgraded version of this years team. Nurse will make Turner into a DPOY candidate. We can move players around easily next season to open up cap. We'd still have enough for Giannis because Dipo will be a free agent. Its only resigning OG that will make the cap take a hit

OG can be signed after signing Giannis. His cap hold is 11.6 Mil. So need to have a max slot + 11.6 Mil in cap space available
