Yes this is what I think. When Suggs was unanimously a top 4 prospect and Masai and Co decide to "ZAG" and pick Barnes, that is being cute. They talked themselves into their guy. Very cute, you went your own way and picked your guy. I did not say whether they were right or wrong. But it is unreasonable to argue that Suggs was not a clear top 4 prospect when every expert, mock draft, etc had him in the top 4.

Suggs very obviously wasn't a unanimous top 4 prospect.

Source - he wasn't drafted in the top 4.

I always chuckle when people say Suggs was the consensus top 4 pick. If the reports are true, Orlando and OKC would've taken Barnes at #4 as well. Chad Ford was saying some teams had Barnes as high as #3.

People need to stop getting their information from places like NBA Draft Net.

I hope Suggs becomes a high end All Star.

I hope Barnes becomes a Superstar.

I want Barnes to be the better player, but not because Suggs is a disappointment.

Haven't been rolling with Suggs since day 1.

I'm loving me some Barnes

I originally wanted us to draft Suggs cause I thought that he'd make a larger immediate impact on our team and seemed an already more offensively polished player over Barnes, which he is but I'm glad that we got the long term project of Barnes since he is likely to pan out as a top player in the league if he reaches his full potential, especially being drafted to the most optimal situation with our developmental system.

That said, I think both players are going to have great basketball careers but the Magic should be sending us a box of chocolates for gift wrapping them Suggs at #5.

I think he may develop the handle, and has the strength, so I would like Scottie to model his game after Kawhi. Strength more than skill. But I will 100% take Sean Marion.

Marion's game was ahead of NBA trends. I enjoyed his year in Toronto, seen him in a few games up close at ACC back when lower bowl was affordable, and I was a big fan since he was on the Suns.

There were no winners, one side just lost more slowly.

Wanted Suggs but not mad that we got Barnes. If he can develop his jumper he legit has top 10 upside.

With that being said I wish we could have found a way to get #5 as well. Suggs is going to be a monster. He just has that "IT" factor. Orlando got themselves a star.

Supposedly the Magic had Barnes rated higher on their board.

True, but Suggs is going to be a real vocal leader and raise that team's floor, long term.

I wonder if that was Weltman just playing mind games with Ujiri. If he says he is interested in Barnes too, Masai can't trade down with him. They scouted Barnes together at the Combine and Weltman could have seen Masai's interest there.

Lol 11 pages off one Summer League game where neither player had a bad game.. this will easily hit 100 by then.

It's going to be a looong season

Barnes has the higher ceiling.
Suggs has the higher floor.

Both have superstar potential IMO.

Raptors, easily. Ross actually fetched us Ibaka who played a pivotal role in our title run. Drummond on the other hand got traded for two second round picks.

Let’s be real

Despite his shooting Suggs was a stud

He’s clutch and awesome on defense

Looks like a rookie Chris Paul without the jumper
and basically Marcus smart on defense

Barnes looks like OG with a slightly better handle and maybe a little longer and skinnier

Scottie is gonna have to work hard on that handle

What are you guys watching? Seriously. Chris Paul? Dude doesnt have a tenth of his half court game. I watched the entire game yesterday, his best player comparison from what i saw last night was a less athletic but not half as dumb Westbrook, which is amazing. These comparisons to these super skilled half court guys like Paul and Roy honestly make 0 sense to me. He showed off his physicality yesterday, not some high end skill

(im not saying he's not skilled, he is, but he showed off his athleticism/tenacity yesterday)
