We would want at least one legit prospect with great talent back. There's no way Masai gives up OG for a bunch of picks. The Knicks don't have this. They have been terrible at drafting.

This kind of thinking led the spurs to accept a subpar package for Kawhi. They didn't want to trade Kawhi to the west, specifically the Lakers. The opposite team should never be a factor in trade discussions, you should accept the best package available.

Do you really think Masai would do the same? OG is not a distressed asset like Kawhi was for the Spurs. Masai would keep OG. One of the most powerful negotiating tools is the ability to say no.

No i don't think Masai will do that. That was my point. We shouldn't care where he ends up as long as we get the best return we can. Limiting our trade partners to just WC teams cuts our potential partners in half.

EC teams outside of Atlantic Division still have a marginal chance, but which of them has multiple 1st's they can put on the table?

If we're trading OG (which I don't want), I'm not moving him until the draft. I'm not trading OG for a bunch of late picks from playoff contenders. I'll trade him to a playoff wannabe during the draft for a high lottery pick. I prefer to keep OG and keep others, but at the very least I'd want one of Brandon Miller, Cam Whitmore, Jarace Walker, or a Thompson twin coming our way.

There is arguably more trade value now than waiting until the draft. Teams will value him higher if they can get him in time for the playoffs this season.

He will be essentially an expiring contract if you trade him at the draft and yes the return will be less.

No need to wait if he wants out

While he has more relative value now, the assets we would want are not likely to be available now, because there is a narrow list of teams that both 1) value him for two playoffs, and 2) have attractive assets: Knicks, Pelicans, Warriors, Paces, Jazz.
