Yep, there’s not a chance Ed will allow this guy to keep making 15M a year with these kind of results this decade and I can’t imagine Masai will be willing to take a pay cut.

He’s fortunately gonna be gone soon.

Executive, coach and player salaries are all up in the NBA.
Masai has done well in the rebuild with a team full of assets now; RJ, Scottie, IQ, Dick, Ingram and a few younger players on the bench with potential. And with the Raptors valued higher than the Leafs, that salary can be justified

The only flaw I see personally is the potential attachment to Giannis and trying to find another one. That can easily be refuted with the moves he's made lately to go another direction and will most likely still will be able to win.

I want the Masai to be like the Pat Rielly of the Raptors. Cemented in the organization. He's a great basketball mind who has worked his way up to a championship

Is it your money?

Masai has done more than any executive in Toronto, ever.

Does it matter? The discussion is what people think will happen, not necessarily what they want to happen.

There is not a very high likelihood that Ed continues to pay top dollar, for bottom results, I think we can all agree on that. I would like a change simply because I think Masais time has run its course, no one can be good forever, and sometimes you just need new blood.

Doesn't mean I think they are likely to pick someone who won't be mid.

There is no person on the face of this planet who I'd trust less than Ed Rogers to hire our new POBO. I literally think a random homeless person would do a more thorough job than Ed. When I say we're going to bring BC back, I'm not joking. I genuinely believe he's on Ed's radar.

why do you seriously believe BC is on Ed's radar....if he does, the fanbase will riot

I wouldn't be surprised if he does elsewhere, I don't think he's bad or anything, but I think he's just been in the same place for too long. Change of scenery works for everyone.

Masai doesn't really build from the ground up, he's done well inheriting teams that have solid pieces and builds from there, he's not a GM you use when you are starting from scratch, same way Nurse wasn't the choice for a new young squad. Nurse is definitely a better coach than Darko, but not the right fit.

I think Masai is the same, no shame in that, no one is great at everything.

Sees clear they won't be firing Masai but won't be extending him on similar terms either. So will depend on performance this year and what offers Masai has next offseason.

People are right that we could be facing a really shocking GM choice. Oddly, one hope is that Rogers may look to the Knicks and see how they performed once Dolan stepped back and they put a focused team in place.

lol it’s so funny seeing the Masai haters come out in full force trying to speak him being fired into existence.
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

Yep, and shortly after they bring in someone new Randle and the likes will start bitching and whining about that person, it's exhausting but inevitable.

You say Masai isn't a GM you use when starring from scratch. Well the Raps are not starting from scratch...so isn't this where you should want him?

I said before it felt like Bobby was running things for a few years and Masai sort of touched on it saying he was more hands off than he should have been.

Since the OG trade, the moves we have made seem so much more "Masai like". I honestly believe he was spending too much time on GoA after the Ship win and now is back to having the Raps as his 1st focus.

If he leaves, he will have lots of job opportunities not only as a GM or Pres, but could be in the league, global bball, politics, etc...

Still feel he has a sneaky trade up his sleeve.

This was a situation where we should/would have started from scratch, he opted as per usual to re-tool. When you have the ROTY and a bunch of much older players who don't fit either the timeline, or the style, you have a fresh start on a silver platter. He took said fresh start, and botched it.

Whether or not it was the right decision, it is not a fresh start, it is a re-tool trading for established players on their second or third contracts. Hence why he isn't right for a fresh start, turning a potential fresh start into a mediocre re-tool, isn't exactly a glowing recommendation for the job.

As for the second half of your post, you could very well be right, but ultimately it doesn't matter. It happened under his watch, with him giving the thumbs up on everything, so it falls on him, both good and bad.

I would actually be on board with Masai staying, if we got rid of Bobby as GM, and got someone that knows how to run a team, and let Masai be the king of drafting as he should be.

People don't realize the bad moves match the timeline when Bobby was in charge more and Masai was focused on other things like African basketball.

The contract offer will be a downgrade and he will leave for a position with the nba head office or to play minor league baseball. Hope he can hit a curve. Bobby will remain as GM and we will make little moves around the edges and we'll be a playin team for the next decade.

I don't understand why everyone is rushing Masai out the door. Whoever comes in will do a worse job. There are plenty of average or below average GMs/Presidents but there only a handful of elite talent who all have positions in more high profile situations. The odds of finding someone better is worse than finding a number one option. We've had plenty of average/below average GMs. From the Isiah to Babcock to BC to Glen with a failed Butch Carter power play for ownership/gm role. Everyone of those GMs would have taken Suggs over Barnes. So would anyone on the market now and most GMs. We had a GM/president who has enough clout to select Barnes and is smart enough to do so. Are we getting that guy as a replacement?

Never understood the love for AA his biggest claim to fame was trading a bunch of our garbage prospects
for some rentals to surround Riccardis core for a couple of playoff flame outs. Got overrated fat Vladdy
who we're now stuck with his bad contract for the next 14 years because of the current regime.

This isn't the first time I've heard the bolded, but you have to realize that even if this is true, it's still Masai's fault as Bobby's boss for allowing him to be in charge as much as he was, to make said bad moves.

I always saw Bobby as the co-General Manager with Masai.

It seems that since the beginning Bobby has been Masai's right hand guy since Masai came on board in 2013. He's a supposed genius on the salary cap, payrolls, taxes etc. which is why Masai hired him.

I think Masai makes the final decision, but obviously values Bobby's insight, recommendations, analysis etc.

The GM is just a title to give Bobby more prestige, recognition and higher salary, but they clearly work together and always have.

Well then the excuse of "Masai stepped back" no longer holds any water then. And quite frankly, if Bobby is the cap genius he is always lauded being, why do we keep handing out more expensive contracts than need be, and trading down picks to avoid the tax.

These are things we should have the advantage on.

All that being said, the last 5ish years have been underwhelming to put it nicely, and I don't think it's unreasonable to look for a change when things are going in the wrong direction.
