I think the Oilers offence would have lit the Leafs up. But for sure they had a chance. One must remember the Leafs might have lost players on the way to the finals like the Oilers did Hyman.

edit: bobs is a proven playoff goalie.

Finals appearance likely.

IMO makes you kind of re-evaluate the team. They clearly were a true contender this year as they took the champs to 7. It is to bad the toxicity of this fanbase is going to demand wholesale changes and likely we will slide back into mediocrity.
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

Maybe - but the Oilers also are atrocious defensively and they need to score 4+ to win most nights

Leafs had a good team, apart from a couple embarrassing losses they were solid, worthy of calling a contender.....they didn't get love from lady luck like the Raptors did.

Leafs gave the Panthers their best series.

B2b years leafs lost with their back-up goalie playing significant amount of time

They're a strange team. They really bungled the goalie situation. I don't really like them as a team (Canucks fan); but at the same time it would be kind of sad if McDavid and Leon do not win a Stanley Cup.

They are for sure a contender. Not comparable to the 2019 team though. Leafs have holes.

They don't really have a choice. Marner wants to get paid McDavid money.

It all traces back to having the balls to trade Huberdeau coming off a monster season. Bringing Tkachuk in changed everything.

They likely open next season as the Cup favorites again. Too deep.

Even signing Bobvrosky was bold. They were mocked at first. Now he's considered one of the all time playoff goalies. Barkov is a low key superstar too.

No argument from me there. There are very few players in the league I would take over Barkov. Dude does it all and is low key on his way to the Hall of Fame.

I was 9 years old since the last time a Canadian NHL team last won the Stanley Cup, and I barely remember it.

The time for Bettman to retire has passed already. Salary cap is scheduled to increase finally which benefits the Leafs.

Hopefully McDavid gets frustrated this offseason and looks back home.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

playing dirty helps in this league
the leafs had a tough grinder and talented C named nazem kadri, they scapegoated him for being dirty and traded him for garbage. a couple years later he wins the cup.

Nah, you misunderstand. It's that those types have way more scrutiny on them playing here so they can't get away with the dirty sht. Hence why Kadri would get hit with actual suspensions. Same thing would happen with Bennett if he played here too.

No one in the states and Florida give two shts about the panthers and they got Colin Campbell in their back pocket so they get free run to goon it up.

As the face of the league, he doesn't have it in him to make that heel turn. It's a shame, because it's a pretty open secret that he would love to play for the Leafs. Anyone living in the Aurora/Newmarket area knows how much time he spends there in the offseason (and the mansion he built in the area).

Him leaving would destroy hockey in that city, even with Draisaitl still there. Before his arrival, they were arguably the worst run team in the league, and they often are among the first teams guys list when they submit their no-trade list, even with him there.
