He's been most criticized for his help D, and for his overall assertiveness. I think part of it is his relationship with Stan Van Gundy, who is asking him to think more on the court. He may be hesitant to just let go, maybe afraid of making mistakes. I bet he comes around, but right now Detroit beat writers are saying it's no longer a slam dunk he gets a full max extension next summer. (I bet he does in the end, but right now, he wouldn't).

Phil Jackson's strange belief that the triangle offence will solve any team's woes, regardless of their makeup, is beyond explanation.
Phil explained prior to the season that they may lose quite a bit prior to figuring it out. Jose is a good fit in the triangle and the system totally relies on a capable all around big (you can understand why they covet Marc and his passing ability so much in the upcoming free agency). The triangle isn't the problem here, the team has been left a mess by past gms and the talent is rather lacklustre. Look across the talent on 30 teams, there are only two franchises I would dread to be a fan of - and that's LA and NY.
You can see flashes/spurts where the system pays dividends to cutters and movement, yielding completely wide open baskets. This mismatched roster just has a tough time adapting to it - particularly ISO dependent options such as melo and smith.
And what's beyond explanation is how a fan on a forum is criticizing arguably the greatest basketball mind of all time.
How is that beyond explanation? You realize what the point of forums is, right? And anyone who is currently sucking at their job should be off limits.
1) Phil Jackson is a great coach. I'm not disputing that.
2) He insists that his teams succeed because of the triangle offence. I find that hard to believe.
3) No other team has bothered to implement a triangle offence. Maybe there's a reason for that?
4) The greatest basketball mind of the past 25 yeats implements an offence based around ball movement and 3-pointers, and manages to win championships without MJ, Kobe, and Shaq.
If he doesn't have an offence that's fit for the triangle, ummm, just a thought, maybe he should adapt?

He isn't as bad as he is showing right now but it also illustrates that he was never as good as many thought. He put up very gaudy numbers which never reflected the true player. What he is best at is rebounding and that hasn't abandoned him. But he always had extremely limited range < 3 FT. and atrocious free throw shooting. His blocked shots are down and his defense has never improved. He wanted to be the leader of the team and isn't mentally capable.
Coaches have figured out how to play him and he is sulking he is much better than he is currently showing but not as good as everyone predicted, I always said Jonas will be a much better all-round C.

Drummond is struggling offensively because Detroit's perimeter players suck. Teams can just load up on him without fear of the inefficient checkers they have on the outside. Remind me again how much they paid for Jodie Meeks. Good lord, Stan.

Meeks isn't a bad player, he had a great year in LA last season - it's just too bad for the Pistons he got injured right after inking that big deal

I remember a few people hear being very high on him to be picked with our 20th pick. What is everyone view now? Was Caboclo the better pick?
