Re: Tank World Order
Why do people keep insisting that Norm won't be back? Outside of his slow starts every year he's been a good player for us. He fits well next to Fred, OG, and Siakam and he's only 28. Plus we have his bird rights. We can sign a big and whomever else and then re-sign Norm over the cap. Do you guys just want Norm off the team? Is this because he helps us win games and might hurt a multi-year tank effort?
Trading Lowry at least makes a tiny bit of sense given his age. Trading Norm makes no sense.

But that'll happen when the team is actually bad, it's obvious they aren't that bad yet unless you blow it all up right now but that would be an impulse move. Masai isn't the type of GM that acts on impulse, him and his team made some mistakes this offseason but I'm still confident in them making the right moves in due time...I'm in no rush to go back the 50+ losses days.
Dude inherited a POS team when he tookover and even then didn't tank lol
The grass is always greener...they'll get their wish when Masai eventually leaves or falls off and were stuck with a mediocre or a bad GM. They don't understand that right now we have an executive equivalent to a Kawhi level player, a franchise changing executive. He's not without his flaws but all in all he's an elite decision maker that 95% of teams in the league would kill to have, he's earned my trust after 7 straight winning seasons and delivered a championship we all thought was just a pipe dream before he came along.
Yes - when the other side disagrees with something, it’s because they don’t understand.
Furthermore, how much conjecture with the other sides opinions can one write with?
People literally make up arguments said by the opposing side that don’t exist.

He could come back, but that probably means we offer him a multi year contract that probably averages around 14-18 million a year. Let's say we give him 15 million per.
That puts us at 88 million per year committed to 4 players (Fred, OG, Siakam, Norrm). Then there is obviously Boucher, Baynes, TD, Malachi all eating at our cap.
That capspace Masai spent years trying to create would essentially be gone.

Getting a superstar and just a competent front office does wonders for a franchise.
We already have one of those things, it's better than a competent one we have an elite front office actually, but yeah it would be nice to have HOF top 20 player of all time...too bad those guys don't come around too often.
They come around in the draft. Or through free agency.
Or via trade.

Which is why teams like the Celtics (Tatum), Sixers (Embiid), Denver (Jokic), Dallas (Luka) are all high upside teams. No matter what seed they land this season, all those teams have the cornerstones of their franchises set.
We DO NOT have a franchise cornerstone.
Are the Celtics, Sixers, Denver and Dallas any better than what we were in the Lowry/Derozan years circa 2016-2018?
What more did those teams accomplish than us in the Derozna/Lowry era?

There's a draft every year, we'll get that coveted top 5-10 pick when this team is legit crap but right now this team is playing better than it was to start the season and gelling together, why not see how it plays it out. You can also get a player like that through a trade, and we've all seen that Masai and co. is capable of getting a player of that caliber if and when it's available.

What have they accomplished?
Boston seems to have taken a step back and the Kemba signing has been disastrous.
The Porzingis trade hurt Dallas and they also regressed.
Sixers still are yet to make the conference finals.
Denver is the most promising but even Murray doesn't seem to have taken the leap yet.

One conference finals appearance and two conference semi-finals appearances, only losing to Lebron. Won 50+ games every season.

Yeah because the guys I named are either MVP calibre players (Embiid, Jokic, Luka) or guys with superstar potential (Tatum).
That's all you need. A player like that locked in long term and then team has to build around them. If you're lucky you go to the finals multiple times and win like the spurs. Or you could be like Dallas with Dirk and maybe go to the finals a couple times and potentially win one. Either way it's a set plan with an end path in sight.
Our Demar teams reached our ceiling very quickly, because Demar was not at the level of the players I named above. Which is why we kept getting swept.

Huh?
Timberwolves had KG, a top 5 player for a decade almost and he left.
We had a Carter, arguably a top 5 player, and he left.
Orlando and Houston had a top 5 player in McGrady and he left or failed.
Indiana had George was a top 5-10 player and he left.
Orlando had a top 5 player in Shaq and he left.
And you can go on and on...

If getting swept by Lebron is some accomplishment rookie Tatum took him to 7 games in the ECFs.

And has Boston made the finals yet?
They lost to Miami last year and barely beat us.
Ironically, Miami is 7-14 right now.

We have a good front office. Timberwolves didn't have that and we for sure didn't have one when Carter was here.

Takes time, their two stars are only in their early 20s and already been to the ecfs multiple times and both are averaging 28 points per game.
Thankfully for use Masai and Bobby made a trade of a lifetime and we won it all.

So did Celtics. and the run that Nuggets had last year was better than anything Raptors showed in 2016-18, Sixers right now are at the top of the conference, Doncic is better than Lowry and Derozan by a mile

Great response. Didn't I make it clear like 4 posts ago to you that you need a franchise player and a good front office? We have one but no the other.
