Bargnani has already broken out. We just hope he keeps getting better. There is no "one more year huh" or "this is it" or whatever other snide little comments you think will rile someone else up.

Nash didn't bust out till his 9th year. So does that mean that mean if we get to Bargs' 5th year and he doesn;t bust out yet, then we should start waiting till the 9th year beacuse it's been done before?
Teams can't just hold on to players that still have potential forever just because 1% of players pan out eventually.

Offcourse. And I imagine fans thought that if a 4th year big can't steal time from Brian Grant, his upside probably wouldn't be that of an allstar/mvp candidate, right?
Not suggesting Bargs will produce JO/Bogut type output next year, but it's conceivable.

So do we dump Bargs for a bag of balls? Because based on some of the opinions here, I can't see why any other team in the league would want him.

Billups is one such guy. There's also Bogut, who only emerged as a star this, his 5th year. Kaman also emerged in his 5th year. Jeremaine O'Neil in his 6th. Blatche looks to be emerging now, heading into his 6th year.
It's not without precident for a talented player, a big especially, to break out during his 5th year.
Check the career stats for Bogut and Kaman.
By their 3rd year, they were both putting up pretty good numbers.
Much better than Bargnani.
Jermaine barely played his first 4 years.
Bargnani is a special case.
No team has ever invested so much in one mediocre player.
And we're going to lose our best player because of it.

You shouldn't point out others' snide comments. He's never going to be the player you hoped for. Bargs has a sweet perimeter shot and is inconsistent on D. He's also a PF

Teams also shouldn't trade those kind of guys for patchwork solutions like say Haywood just so we can make the playoffs.
If we get a great deal for Bargs- go for it. But to trade him just to trade him? Not sure about that one.

I don't think any other team does want him.
Certainly not enough to give up anything of significance for him.

Re: SoTD: Bargnani's defensive breakdown (updated)
I say Bargs has one more year. He hasn't been playing as a C his whole career and he actually seems to have the wherewithal to improve his game. From where he's at now, with post D and a postup game on offence, he really only needs to work on his rebounding and help D. No reason to think those aren't the things he'll work on this summer. What we see next year will be a good indication of how far he'll go.

Thing is, you won't get equal value unless another team is looking for a perimeter shooter that has eh D.

Well based on what you've said, what do you consider "equal value"?

Maybe another GM will overpay for a "skilled" big man that doesn't actually help the team win. Although it's hard to see someone having an infatuation for a player like that that rivals BC's.

How would he do replacing Okur in Utah?

4 years, 10 per
5 years, 10 per with 10%(or is it 5?) trade kicker. The Raptors should thank their lucky stars if someone even thinks about touching that contract, don't even think about getting value back.

Maybe. Maybe the Raps should just cut him and send him back to Italy since he is so detrimental. No talent, no hope, no peace, no rest.

Haywood would have made a huge impact on this team.
But anyways. I'm not saying we need to trade him this second. Simply that you shouldn't just go holding on to every player that has shown what Billups did early in his career in hopes that he'll be the next Billups. And you really shouldn't gamble your franchise player on it imo.

Okur's career rebounding % : 14.6 (Bosh 14.9)
Bargnani's : 9.8
Okur's career true shooting % : 56.1
Bargnani's : 54.5
Okur's career assists per game : 2.1
Bargnani's : 1.3
While they are superficially similar players, Okur has just been a significantly better player so far.

I wanted us to trade Bargs for Jeff Green last year. Jeff Green would have fit in really nicely at SF for us.
