Your Ideal Trading Partner For The Raptors

Post#221 » by Purple+Black » Thu Jun 13, 2013 5:18 am

Who do you think is our most ideal trading partner (a team we're most likely to complete a trade with, resulting in a net positive for both teams)

In my opinion, it has to be the 76ers, they were banking on Bynum, but that didn't pan out. So they find themselves stuck alongside us, as the 9th seed. This makes them an ideal trading partner for us, assuming we're not tanking and instead, retooling, of course.

They have a bright pg who is arguably on the verge of top 5 in the league in Jrue Holiday, but after him, they find themselves with good pieces who don't excel in one specific aspect of the game.

#1 Need: Offensive punch, they rank in the middle, like us, in defence, but finished dead last on offence.

Raptors Send:

DeMar DeRozan
Terrence Ross
Andrea Bargnani
'14 2nd Round Pick

Raptors Receive:
Evan Turner
Thaddeus Young
Jason Richardson
'13 1st Round Pick (11th)

We get two solid pieces that compliment and complete our starting line-up.

Young has range beyond the 3pt line, and can space the floor very well if need be; he's also very efficient as a PF, both offensively and defensively, a perfect fit beside Valanciunas. His contract also lasts 3 more seasons and he's only 24.

Evan Turner: He compliments Lowry's play style, he can handle the ball and distribute, he's been a good 3pt shooter and a pretty good defender, things we need, also on his rookie deal and will have bird rights to him after the contract ends.

Richardson: Most likely won't contribute much to our team, but we've been piling 2015 expirings and he adds to that.

We get a mid lotto pick as well in this years draft and retain our first round pick in next year's draft.

Lowry/Draft?
Evan Turner/Free Agent Sixth Man Mayo/Barbosa?
Rudy Gay/Landry Fields
Thaddeus Young/Amir Johnson
Jonas Valanciunas/Aaron Gray

Holiday
DeRozan/Nick Young
Free Agent
Bargnani
Bynum?/Hawes

They too need to add pieces in order to round out their roster.

That is not even a tank team. The idea behind tanking is that you have a roster filled with bad players. A team with good players like burke okafor amir and val will win at least 30 games

I think its a pretty fair deal tbh.. Ross was a 9th pick in a good draft >>>> 11th pick in very weak draft
DeRozan > Turner
Thaddeus Young >> Bargnani

But we swallow Richardson's contract so they get Bargs for basically 7mil/yr

Plus we give a 2nd round pick in a very deep draft

Ideal trade partners...assuming were using guys like Bargnani and DeRozan as trade bait)

Philly (Turner, JRich etc)
Chicago (Boozer)
New York (Amare)
LA Lakers (Pau)
Charlotte (Ben Gordon)

These are the teams I can think of off the top of my head.

We dont need change anything just sign new backup pg

PG Lowry, new guy
SG DD Ross
SF Gay Fields LK
PF Il Mago(best form) Amyr
C Jonas AG

I think this team with good coaching could reach semifinals in the East or more.

Washington, Sacramento and maybe Detroit, if they find nobody wants to sign there as a free agent.

Turner is a better player than people give him credit for. He is as well rounded in points, assists, rebounds as AI2 with the exception that he has a reliable 3 point shot. He can also play both guard positions and SF. Is an above average defender and is due to break out next year. With that said, Philly for some reason does not like him, and actually wanted to trade him with Hawes for Andrea, if they are still open to that deal, give them a call. Keep Demar and if Lowry walks, than Turner can play the point, he did in college, and he does whenever jrue sits.

Turner, his decision making is not that good. Perhaps he is still learning, but not sure he has the feel of the game. I think Tuner is more a Richard Jefferson type of guy. Has the physical tools, has some skills, but not able to put it together, and not making the best decision.

He is like Demar, he just hasn't put it all together yet. If he does, than Philly will have a steal, assuming he can. I feel he will break out this year.

But for Andrea, I'd gladly take Turner, or for Demar.

If Boston is tanking and GSW needs cap relief to resign Jack, here are retool moves that could quickly improve our 3 point shooting and defence while staying under the tax.

Bargnani for Jason Terry and Courtney Lee
Landry Fields for Carl Landry and Brandon Rush
Amnesty Kleiza
Do not renew JLIII

Val/Landry/Gray
Amir/Acy
Gay/Rush
DeRozan/Lee/Ross
Lowry/Terry

Not really sure where to put this, but in Doug Smith's chat someone asked what he'd like to see happen with the Raptors this summer and his response was perfectly Doug:

I'm basically lazy, if nothing happened, it'd be glorious

I'm not sure why, but I believe him.
