i agree....u can't have two borderline flawed starters competing to be a starter (see Jose vs Calderon)

Jose Vs Calderon is an exciting matchup. Who wins?

I got Jose in this one

Calderon lost his job to TJ.

In TJ Warren's defense (YES, I AM putting on my cape for him - pause), he does get buckets.

It really is a shame he is perpetually picking up injuries that sideline him for half a season, every season.

Various Raptors have had games like Trent just had through the years. Terrence Ross comes to mind. You can't evaluate a player based on their best game.

Trent is a very 3-point shooter, which is the most valuable skill in today's NBA. So he's going to get paid. But as of now he's rather one-dimensional and the advanced stats aren't complimentary of him on defense.

He's only 22 so he can still improve, but this is also his 4th year in the league and he hasn't shown much improvement to date. We can use the offense, but there's a good chance his contract will prove to be a big overpay. A sign-and-trade is probably a better option.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Calderon would kick Jose’s pig farming ass without question.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

Trent and Powell is an example of a win-win trade.

TRoss was simply lazy. Talented - most definitely, but he would drift in and out.

Plus, it is VERY tough to see the rock playing alongside Dame, CJ AND Melo.

It is all about opportunity. GTJ was doing the goddamn thang last year in the bubble once his number was called for extended, consistent run.

TRoss had those chances, and he did NOT embrace the opportunities provided. Tough break.

Calderon was a nice passer, though. I recall he was not much of a defender.

Hose, on the other hand, he could really shoot the pull up J. Money at the FT line as well.

You guys gotta stop talking about Gary's defensive stats if you aren't going to use context lol. The man was on like the second worst defensive team in the league and defensive stats already aren't very reliable (Ask any stats geek). Of course his defensive stats aren't going to be good. If you have watched any of the Raptors games since he's been here you can already see he's a better defender than Norm. Especially off ball which was where Norm was terrible. Also if you watched any Portland games you could see he was the only player on that team that played even remotely decent defence. I always say Robert Covington was an amazing defender before and on that team he hasn't looked good. So I'm gonna go with the eye test on this one.

Right now he’s strictly a shooter. If he can mix it up a bit more he can easily be an All-Star in the future.

He’s a shot maker! Makes a lot of difficult mid range shots. I wonder if the Raps will continue to let him take those shots or if they will phase them out of his game.

If you let him take those shots there will definitely be nights where they’re not falling. I doubt he can make those at an efficient enough rate over a season. That said, the raps don’t have a mid range scorer and sometimes those are the only shots a defence will give up.

It will be interesting to follow his development and see if the Raps let him be who he is or try to mold him into their type of offensive player - 3’s and layups.

You need guys who have a refined midrange game. This element makes a player an elite scorer...and the development system the Raptors put in places does not emphasize that...and you end up with a roster full of guys who only know 2 ways to score: driving straight to the basket or take a 3 pointer. When teams figure out to gamplan against that kind of offence... especially in the playoffs...it's over.

Need versatility in the offence. The midrange game not dead.

Definitely need a mid range scorer on your squad if you want to be elite. Preferably one who is a playmaker and commands a double team so that can initiate the drive and kick game. Also a mid range player that can get easier looks. Trent isn’t that guy. But he’s a shot maker! That rainbow step back is sweet when it falls.

It will be interesting to see how they develop his game.

I'll be honest. I had a lot more fun watching these guys share the ball and play as a true team/unit than seeing pascal and Fred chuck shots for 40 mins.

And I think that's a bit meaningful going forward concerning the direction this team should be taking.

As in we're probably better off selling high on Pascal and Fred and building around Flynn and these young guys.

Huh? The Raptors have played 53 games this season.

(The most-used lineup without Lowry this year has been: A. Baynes, .N. Powell, .P. Siakam, .F. VanVleet, .O. Anunoby.
NetRTG: -17.7)

Fred will never be traded. Forget about it. He is the leader of the Franchise(in-waiting). Unless you can convince Masai that Flynn can go into a closing game of an NBA FINALS and take over a 4th quarter while locking down a 2-time MVP.
