Sam Vecenie who coined 'zero level scorer' is leaning Barnes.

Yes because it was not this close. Honestly feel they should be co rookie of the year.

So, without getting too deep over an award that’s ultimately of little consequence and involves three prodigious talents, Cunningham gets my vote. If Mobley were on the Magic and Barnes on the Rockets, how the ROY race is viewed would be a lot different than it is.

Ya, it would be different, Scottie and Mobley would put up monster raw stats because efficiency and wins don't matter.

It’s too bad Barnes didn’t play well against the Knicks. Would have been nice to out a stamp on it if anyone was on the fence.
2019 Eastern Conference All Stars

Derozan
Lowry
Ibaka
Valanciunas
Van Vleet
Delon Wright
Lebron
Embiid

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

He posted 7 points (3/5 FG), 5 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 stl in a game where he only played 20 minutes because he was being rested in a meaningless game.

I don't think it would have been wise for Nurse to play him 40 minutes so he could stat pad.

Very successful first season.

74 GMS, 35.4 MIN, 15.3 PPG, 7.5 REB, 3.5 AST, 1.1 STL, 0.7 BLK, 49.2 FG, 30.1 3PT, 73.5 FT, 55.2 TS, 19.0 USG + the defensive versatility.

These look more like year 2 or 3 numbers, not year 1. He's way ahead of schedule.

It honestly is amazing the season he had. Especially given the expectations at the beginning of the season when scoring in the double digits was something most people didn't think he could do yet.

And honestly given the jump in his play from college to the NBA in just a single season, he's going to be a monster in the next two years.

Barnes could win finals MVP and the takes would still be "yeah but the Raptors got lucky with their draw and Barnes got to ride shot gun with a Siakam and VanVleet. Let's see how they stack up in a regular year next season when the Nets, Nuggets, Warriors, Heat are at full strength."

And then we keep in mind that the same people with the same reasoning left Siakam off All-NBA and Freddy off All-Defense / DPOY.

Hey man, as much as I want Scottie to win ROY, I’m okay if he doesn’t because he will be competing with Giannis for best player in the league in five years when most of the current superstars get old and/or retire.
not strong, only aggresive cuz the power ain't directed/ that's why, we are subjected to the will of the oppressive

what annoys me in all of this is that there are people like Mike Schmitz who are saying Barnes was in the easiest position to succeed.

greeny took barnes

4:15

he has good analysis on it

barnes / mobley / cunningham all had similar numbers

but barnes had the biggest positive impact on his team who is also 5th and have 48 wins , and that's how he weighed it

barnes should be a lock to win this in my mind as the analytics also back him up

What isn't talked about and very hidden is that Barnes had an outlier year as a rookie. He shot over 50% from 3-10 feet on the bulk of his shots.

I'm wondering if that was a fluke (not so much him being very good at it, but actually shooting 50% there)

I'm looking at basketball reference and i'm legitimately not finding a single rookie that's done that.

Not even Kawhi who had a lesser role and took half the amount of shots managed to accomplish that as a rookie.

I'm legit struggling to find a rookie who's done that in any capacity tbh. There's probably or has to be a couple that's done that before.
