True.

But in the playoffs they stunk it up from three and won a championship off of SGA and their defense.

There’s no specific formula for winning a championship. But you do have to be elite at something.

Jak is the glue. I remember last season where it was pretty much a guaranteed loss if Jak was out. Glad we were able to lock him up.

Very happy about this. Jakob is so underrated in the league because of the way he plays the game. Very similar to the impact Steven Adams had when in Memphis and OKC. These are accretive players that help you win. Great to see he will be us for the next four years. If things don’t work out Jakob can easily be moved for value.

25/26: 19.5M
26/27: 19.5M
27/28: 26M
28/29: 28M
29/30: 30M (5M guaranteed)

That’s a lot better than original details, as I would hope we have developed another option to replace him before the last season, and we only lose the $5M.

Interested in the trade kicker %/details,

It's probably why they went to 2 game 7's against teams they should of beaten comfortably on paper.

Being crap at 3 point shooting thins your margins by a considerable amount. They barely won their chip and it took being a top 10 defensive team of all time to overcome their lack of shooting.

Poeltl has landed a four-year, $104 million deal to stay with the Raptors. Sources say the veteran center activated his $19.5 million player option for 2025-26 and secured additional $84 million over the following three years. The 2029-30 season is only guaranteed for $5 million, sources say, but includes language that, year by year, can hike that figure depending on minutes played and playoff success.

That is incorrect.

He activated his 2026-2027 player option for $19.5m and then received 3 additional years/$84m.

He was always under contract for 2025-2026.

Solid piece of business here. Got the opt in for the pinch point year when we still have RJ and BI on the books together next season (26-27). Then essentially market value right now for a starting C in 27-28 to 29-30 with no opt outs, except the market will probably be a little hotter by the time that kicks in. Even with him entering his 30s that should be a moveable deal at the worst.

I figure it looks like this, assuming maximum backloading:

2025-26: 19.5M
2026-27: 19.5M
2027-28: 26.1M
2028-29: 28.2M
2029-30: 30.3M

That final year at 30M projects to be less than 15% of the cap (assuming 7% increases in the cap every year instead of 10% with the latest projection for next year only rising that much).

I wouldn't have paid a dime more than 4/103. We'll have to find a way to cover the difference. Bake sale incoming

The five has historically been a challenge for us to fill;
Yak has been excellent in the role and I am pretty content at the term of the extension.

We were lucky having Valanciunas from 2012-2018 and both Serge and Gasol filled the void well until 2020...was very tough not having a real center from 2020-2023.

if he finishes the contract and keeps up his value during it
getting 8 years of Jakob was well worth the 8th pick.

absolutely hate this. Same money as Myles Turner while being a worse fit.
I understnad he's important for our roster because we don't have centers but Poeltl isn't a particularly good fit for the roster

I'm going to simply point out that OKC was 6th best 3PT shooting team last year. Of the bottom 10 3PT shooting teams, only Orlando and Houston made the playoffs.

That doesnt really mean too much. Being bad in anything is an obstacle to overcome. Of the bottom 10 in 2pt% only 3 made the playoffs.

The 10 most turnover prone teams only 3 made playoffs. Of the bottom 14 defenses only 1 made the playoffs. And if you look at volume, 5 of the bottom 10 teams in 3 pointers made per game made the playoffs

2PT% and 3PT% are highly correlated, though. 9 of those teams in the bottom-10 2PT% are the same teams in the bottom-10 of 3PT%.

At the end of the day, you need to excel at offense and defense - it's not rocket science. You can make the playoffs with only half the equation, but very unlikely to go deep.

I think Poeltl is one of those players where you can't fully appreciate him unless you watch him quite a bit. He wins so many little battles on the margins.

Seems clear most on the main board don't watch the Raps/Poeltl a lot.

There's alot of overall hatred towards the Raptors starting lineup and the contracts they're on.....getting compared to the Bulls and Kings, which I think is unfair.

I have a good feeling Raptors will surprise next season, and we got all the receipts saved from the haters.

Not so much that he's the glue necessarily. Just lack of size getting blatant whenever he's out. Don't think new minimum backup is the answer but we'll see I guess due to lack of options/moves.

The comparisons are fair given our track record over the past 5 years. Normally tanking teams aren't capped out the way we've been so everyone's just trying to understand wtf is happening.

I also think we're going to surprise teams next year but no one cares until you actually do it.
