I'm not sure why, but I believe him.

Yup. I'm not questioning Doug's credibility on this one. His sources are rock-solid.

A variation of the above scenario.

Trade 1

ORL gives Turk, Harrington, 2014 DEN/NY 1st
ORL gets Biedrins, Fields, Ross

GSW gives Landry, Rush, Biedrins, 2014 2nd
GSW gets Turk, Harrington
GSW waive Turk and Harrington (only 9.5 of 19 million guaranteed)

TOR gives Fields, Ross
TOR gets Landry, Rush, 2014 DEN/NY 1st, 2014 GSW 2nd

Trade 2
Bargnani for Jason Terry and Courtney Lee

Amnesty Kleiza
Do not renew JLIII

Val/Landry/Gray
Amir/Acy
Gay/Rush
DeRozan/Lee
Lowry/Terry

additional 2014 1st and 2nd rounder (try to trade into 2013 2nd round)
7 million under the tax for MLE and minimum signings

This makes ZERO sense on so many levels

Talking about offseason transactions:

AA is working a little a bit as a "field tester".

Though his chucking and Casey's love for him can be VERY frustrating, I hope he comes back and get another year-contract

I still hope Masai fires Casey!

1. Amnesty Bargs, Reject Lucas's player option.

2. Terrence Ross, Aaron Gray, Landry Fields for Josh Smith (Sign and Trade).

3. Sign Randy Foye and Jermaine O'Neal with the MLE. Anthony Morrow to the Vet Minimum.

4. 5th Seed

Hansari wrote:Who do you think is our most ideal trading partner (a team we're most likely to complete a trade with, resulting in a net positive for both teams)

In my opinion, it has to be the 76ers, they were banking on Bynum, but that didn't pan out. So they find themselves stuck alongside us, as the 9th seed. This makes them an ideal trading partner for us, assuming we're not tanking and instead, retooling, of course.

They have a bright pg who is arguably on the verge of top 5 in the league in Jrue Holiday, but after him, they find themselves with good pieces who don't excel in one specific aspect of the game.

#1 Need: Offensive punch, they rank in the middle, like us, in defence, but finished dead last on offence.

Raptors Send:

DeMar DeRozan
Terrence Ross
Andrea Bargnani
'14 2nd Round Pick

Raptors Receive:
Evan Turner
Thaddeus Young
Jason Richardson
'13 1st Round Pick (11th)

We get two solid pieces that compliment and complete our starting line-up.

Young has range beyond the 3pt line, and can space the floor very well if need be; he's also very efficient as a PF, both offensively and defensively, a perfect fit beside Valanciunas. His contract also lasts 3 more seasons and he's only 24.

Evan Turner: He compliments Lowry's play style, he can handle the ball and distribute, he's been a good 3pt shooter and a pretty good defender, things we need, also on his rookie deal and will have bird rights to him after the contract ends.

Richardson: Most likely won't contribute much to our team, but we've been piling 2015 expirings and he adds to that.

We get a mid lotto pick as well in this years draft and retain our first round pick in next year's draft.

Lowry/Draft?
Evan Turner/Free Agent Sixth Man Mayo/Barbosa?
Rudy Gay/Landry Fields
Thaddeus Young/Amir Johnson
Jonas Valanciunas/Aaron Gray

Holiday
DeRozan/Nick Young
Free Agent
Bargnani
Bynum?/Hawes

They too need to add pieces in order to round out their roster.

How does the trade above give us more offensive punch. Maybe the addition of Mayo, but a starting 2-3 with Turner, Gay and Young would give us a pretty weak offensive line-up.

The Raps need a scorer, someone that puts up points quick and can hit the 3 ball. Guys like Monta or Kevin Martin maybe Mayo would be great fits.

Agree Derozan and Bargnani need to go.

OJ Mayo on DeRozan's contract would actually be ideal... he would be a nice fit between Lowry and Gay. Who knows, maybe DD develops a 3pt shot and shuts us all up, I really hope he does

Raps In - Pau Gasol + Steve Blake
Raps Out - DeMar DeRozan + Andrea Bargnani + Landry Fields

Raps In - Wes Mathews
Raps Out - Terrance Ross + Kleiza

MLE on Mike Dunleavy
Sign Elton Brand or Sam Dalembert to Vet Min

Raps

Lowry - Blake
Mathews - Anderson
Gay - Dunleavy
Gasol - Amir - Acy
JV - Dalembert

I meant the 76ers needed scoring and offense, not us, I think offensively, with Lowry+Gay+Valanciunas+Young+Turner we're have a great mix of options for the future in this order: Gay - Valanciunas - Lowry, Lowry & Gay are already great creators, Valanciunas I hope will develop into a 16-20ppg threat as a center, and then all we're left with is a need for complimentary players which are Turner & Young, and then a sixth man-scorer which would be Mayo.

If Casey wants veteran that may not be the easiest to coach, but plays with an edge, then my pick would be Ivan Johnson. He is a guy that has bad temper and would probably scare most GMs/coaches away, but he is a gamer. He rebounds and defends well, and will hit you if you come in the paint. He is probably a minimum guy for Atlanta, but if we spend a bit more we could get him after the Kleiza amnesty. I'd rather spend MLE money on him and get some real toughness, rather than another average bench guy.

The biggest issue for the Raptors to me is when Amir Johnson hits the bench or plays hurt no one can replicate what he does on the team. JV will but may take a couple years to mature. Ivan Johnson plays hard in the same way Amir does. He brings no drop-off in energy when entering a game. He's 27, has been banned from Korean league for anger issues, but IJ is a guy that makes a ton of sense for a team seeking a grittier team.

If we are deciding to roll with Lowry, and all indications are that is the likely outcome, then I would hope our first priority is to acquire a veteran back-up point guard like Billups who can settle him down a bit and replace him effectively should injury occur. MY preference is to decide on a young core and acquire a step back to lotto pick pivot (Will Bynum type) who could morph into a back-up if we could land a Burke, Schroeder or a Harrison twin.

You Be The GM

Post#255 » by jonny three time » Fri Jun 14, 2013 7:05 pm

First off, I realize that it would depend on which options have good offers and which ones don't. Masai can't stick to one option if there's no quality offer out there for it. Let's just say that there's a quality deal for each scenario and he has to choose direction based on who he wants to move, or in this case, you guys have to choose which type of direction based on who you'd like to see move.

I believe that the first 4 options are the only good ones, but added the last 2 for the sake of fairness. A case could be made that trading a big piece for depth might make more sense than usual given the teams salary structure and redundancies in the starting lineup.

This is RealGM, so put on your GM hats and pretend that you've got 6 (or more) quality offers on the table and have to choose a direction to take the team in.

Where's the option to get rid of Bargnani,AA, Lucas ,Fields and Gray?

Why do we have to get rid of our best players when we need to cure the cancer first ( Bargs, AA etc...)

Maybe I should have put a blow-it-up option out there, but it the poll results would be less interesting. It's the easy way out.
