If terrible fan = being rational and taking off the homer goggles, then sure.

see: when you think you're being rational, and noone agrees with you, how can it rational?

Masai is not a terrible GM. He's probably top 10 in the league. There is no way I would rank him lower than that.

A good GM is proactive. Something Masai isn't.

He's been riding out BC's core and coach for 5 years. He's been handing out bad contracts like candy. The only thing he's done well is draft. I've always maintained that he has a great eye for talent, but that's all he's good for. He's not GM material as he doesn't do the other tasks required of a GM very well.

A couple things stuck out to me. First he said for his assistants he values guys with head-coaching experience. He went on to say of some kind, meaning it could be open to Europe or even National Team coaches. I think he will bring at least one of the European options.

Second he did say he 'celebrated' last week. I am thinking they knew he was the one pretty early on and like I thought, most of the European trip was to scout and see what other bench options could fit his staff.

I really believe they held off on signing him just until Casey was signed to a deal so they wouldn't have to pay for two coaches. MLSE is pretty cheap. I also predict we will lose FVV because they won't want to go into the tax.

Masai must have been watching the Ontario election.

"Raptors Are Open for Business!" That's Douggies line now. It's fairly obvious the Raptors are open for business, they got swept in the 2nd round and have no draft picks

ORL can't offer him 12. Not in the CBA for a restricted bird rights FA.

Regardless his contract will put the team in the tax, I'd be surprised if Masai can make room under it. He's gone.

Losing FVV would set the franchise back significantly. We need to retain as much of our youth as possible for the inevitable upcoming rebuild.

There are lot's of ways he can make room. Bigger question is whether he has the stones to execute them.

I really don't care what he says, at the end of the day the roster isn't going anywhere and the team needs a complete rebuild very soon. I would pick Hinkie for a rebuild over Masai.

What do you not understand about our 3 year window we had to compete? When he signed lowry and ibaka for those short term contracts it was clear we were going to try and compete for those 3 years and if it doesn't work out after that its time to rebuild. This was the plan all along and it was pretty clear. Hes not buying himself extra time that's just the way teams are built, you cant go from a 59 win team to a bottom feeder in a single year, it just doesn't work like that which i don't know how is news to you.

Whats the point of the 3 year window, when you know the teams max ability is the second round at most. Waste of time, change the plan and start the rebuild. Obviously won't happen because of MLSE, so enjoy the **** show.

Masai can't be blameless here. He knew the owners he's dealing with yet he still chose to cap out the team.

As lame as that press conference was, I feel better about the hire now. Having a forward thinking coaching staff is a breath of fresh air. No disrespect to Casey who's a solid coach, but adjustment wise he was slow. Raps were late to the party running a modern offense and always seemed to be the one's who were adjusting to the other team's in playoff series instead of the other way around.

I love that Nurse wants to use the regular season to experiment more and wants to bring in more innovative/creative minds onto his coaching staff. I'm okay with the team taking a step back in the regular season at the cost of experimenting more and having more flexibility in the playoffs to dictate and adjust to matchups.

Casey had lineups out there in the playoffs that rarely ever played together in the regular season, it was wild.

Now the pressure is on Masai to try to bring in players that best fit Nurse's system and try to dump the ones who don't.

And I don't think we have any clue what will happen to this roster based on this conference. They did mention the playoffs, but I don't think anyone expected them to come out and say, "we are blowing it up and going in another direction." Because they probably aren't sure what type of moves/trades will come up. We've all heard the reports that we are open for business via trades, so I think that is still very much on the table. But it's way too early really know what will happen.

If you thought this was bad, go rewatch Kyle’s re-signing. Masai looked like he’d rather be dead than be there. Compare it to Serge who followed moments after where he at least seemed normal. At DeMar’s he looked like he was at his son’s wedding, barely able to keep his tears in.

If someone is going, it’s gonna be coach killer Lowry.

In the podcast interview with his hometown local newspaper 2 days after the Cavs series (posted here earlier), as well as he kinda mentioned today, he talked about there are ways to switch better to avoid the big mismatch situations (and also the changing the rotations) because he thought they struggled bad on those situations (eg., Miles guarding Love, DeMar guarding Love, etc).

Yeah, he also pointed out roster issues (lack of experienced wing options to guard LeBron). We had OG and Siakam cutting their teeth. He indicated Boston would do better because they had more experienced options. Whenever they put a younger guy on LeBron like Tatum it was good night.

Feschuk asked him to throw Casey under the bus because he heard from someone that there was "no love lost." Dumb question and a waste of time.

Lebron's production didn't didn't really vary against the Pacers, Celtics or the Rap. OG and Siakam did more than enough. Stop with this mythical wing defender who can somehow slow down Lebron. We're not getting someone close to the level of PJ Tucker this season and even when did have him he made no impact against Lebron.

You're partly right, but LeBron did turn the ball over a lot more against the Celtics. They had more options for him than we did, where we exclusively gave him OG and Siakam and then occasionally CJ Miles. The Cavs had to continually work to get their favorable LeBron switches, whereas LBJ really didn't try too hard to move off of OG or Siakam.

I got warned for being "too negative" during BC's tenure too. Looks like I was right in the end. I'll be right with Masai as well. It takes about half a decade for this board to start turning on a GM (we're already seeing more Masai critics).
