The buyout market is terrible right now, lets hope some actual rotation worthy players get bought out over the next week. There's multiple contending teams that need shooting and ben ch scoring so Masai is gonna have to work his magic if someone decent gets bought out.

Still kinda sucks we missed out on Matthews, Ellington, and Kanter. Any one of those would've been a huge win in the buyout market. I wonder who Masai was targeting when he said they would attack the buyout market?
Certainly couldn't have been Ben.

Alcohol or substance abuse. Team executives already know that's why theres no buzz about anyone wanting to pick him up.

Interesting, how do you know this? Was there reports out or rumours earlier on in the season?

We won’t get those player, it is not just all about $ and contender , younger player will look for more opportunity And more mins to play. We can’t guarantee that . This is the only Chance for them to get the next contract

Why does half the fanbase think that the buyout market is first come first serve? The players have to want to play here too. It's basically a mini free agent period.

This may seem out of left field but I have a feeling that maybe we are considering Pau Gasol. According to some reports he wants a buyout https://www.eurohoops.net/en/nba-news/826848/pau-gasol-reportedly-wants-to-leave-spurs/. I definitely think Marc and Pau want to have one last chance at playing with each other ala Niedermayer brothers and chase a championship. They have expressed this in the past https://www.grizzlybearblues.com/2015/10/2/9438803/marc-gasol-pau-gasol-recruit-to-memphis-grizzlies-brothers-spain-together. Along with having Sergio Scariolo the odds of this happening increases and I think it may become a possibility.

I thought that might happen to but I think Pau's contract is a hurdle. Something about it being a partial guarantee in the next year makes it more expensive for the Spurs to buyout.

/edit this is all doable if the Spurs waive and stretch him. Not a bad cap hit for them if stretched over 3 years.

My pick would be Anthony Tolliver if he gets bought out by Minny. Nice stretch four with passable defense. A pretty useful guy that apparently Toronto was looking into during the Trade Deadline.

Still pissed we didn't go for Jamychal Green in the Gasol deal. Surely we could have done better than Avery Bradley

Tolliver would be a solid pickup as a backup 4. Interesting that it seem like Masai first had deals lined up for guys like Mirotic and Tolliver and when they fell through Gasol was his fallback option to at least upgrade the roster somehow.

Yet some disgruntled fans are acting like Gasol was Masai's main plan at the TDL and he ignored the need for bench shooting lol.

I have absolutely despised the idea of VC coming back. I have have held an unhealthy disdain verging on initial hatred for VC when he was first traded, until now.

This team needs a 3pt threat off the bench and VC might be one of the very limited options available .

At this point, with the Raps being all in, I'm on board with bringing him back. I don't know if that says more about the lack of shooting Masai has been unable to address or the desperation I'm starting to feel.

Good to see you come around.... What's that old saying business is business?

Time to let old grudges die off and do what's best for the franchise especially in the position we're in right now.

I don't think you can say that Gasol was the backup plan and Tolliver or Mirotic were the primary plan.

It was probably that Gasol was the primary plan and players like Tolliver and Mirotic were explored as backup plans and rejected by either the Raptors or the other team. Even if both teams were interested in those deals, it was still going to be contingent on the Gasol plan falling through.

And by getting Gasol, you are not ignoring bench shooting. There is still the buy out market available that has almost 3 weeks to play out. They have mentioned time and again that shooting is a priority. But when you have someone like Marc Gasol available, bench shooting is secondary. Players like Marc Gasol are rare. Bench shooters are more plentiful.

It is possible that will backfire and they won't be able to get better shooters from the buy out market, but you always err on the side of getting the bigger piece that is rare.

I agree it would be interesting having both Gasol's on the team.

I can't see the Raptors being an option for Lin.

If Lin’s representation can find a team that is willing to play him more than the time he’s getting now from the Hawks, he’ll likely request a buyout. Lin has been adamant that coming off the bench isn’t his preferred role, and it never will be. That’s just his competitive nature. “I’m going to try to do my best, though, with whatever assignment I have,” he said. “It doesn’t mean I don’t have aspirations to be a starter or to get heavy minutes or even to come off the bench and play more or be more involved. Those are all very real thoughts.”

LOL didn't the Cavs just acuired him and traded him to the Rockets, who then traded him to the Pacers, who then waived him?

I can see this being a vet locker-room presence type of signing along the same lines of the idea of signing Randolph. However, for an emergency insurance policy as a 3rd or 4th center, Gasol is obviously better his age now than Randolph is who hasn't even played a second this season. A signing like this would be like Cavs signing Kendrick Perkins last year. Only that Pau Gasol is a 2 time NBA champion and future HOFer - he can only add value to the locker room. We need vets who know how to win the big trophy and we would have lots of them (along with Kawhi, Green, and even Patrick McCaw  )
