Obviously it's a big unknown and it wouldn't even matter for a few years, but if he really pans out to be a star, I feel like he would be a huge asset when it comes to recruiting other great players to join our team. The one thing that we've never been able to do in our entire team's history.
He could end up being a very valuable recruiter.
Demar was friends with literally everyone in the league too. It didn't help attract any FAs, sadly. It certainly doesn't hurt to have a guy like that on the roster though.
DeMar was the exact parallel I had in mind. The issue with him is he simply wasn't good enough to draw other stars here. IF Scottie is, I think he definitely can. Again, a minor point in the grand scheme of things, and it's irrelevant if Barnes simply doesn't pan out to be a star that others want to play with, but when I think about how LeBron and Bosh joined the Heat, it's little things like this that can give you the edge in making those huge moves possible. Scottie has been developing relationships with guys involved with USAB since 2017.
