is it trying to avoid scheduling against thursday night football?
something to do with nba cup games maybe?

its a quirk of the NBA cup, since they want all nba cups games on same days tue/fridays, there will be odd days like today.

Nah. Avoid scheduling during that celebration day.

I checked a holiday and celebration calendar. On november 14 there is:
World Diabetes Day
National Pickle Day
Operating Room Nurse Day
National Spicy Guacamole Day
"But the thing is, maybe I do want to wake up one morning and say, `Baby, let's go to the Bahamas. Today.' That costs money. So what if I want to do that?

Jared McCain looking like early favourite for ROTY but his numbers are gonna take a hit when Maxey is back. Looks legit though. Uggh, Sixers

Golden State and Memphis both went 12 deep in their game. Depth seems to be the new trend.

OKC Jalen Williams is great. He is playing the type of defense I have been hoping Scottie could play someday. He is basically contesting shots at volume at the rim like a big while having 3%+ block and stl%. Freakish wingspan helps.

All NBA 3rd team looking likely if he plays 85% of this level rest of way.

The Sixers luck into these really good guards in the mid-first rounds. A backcourt of Maxey and McCain looks good.

When Nurse took over from Casey, I thought we would be playing this way as this is how our bench mob used to play...
Then when Darko took over from Nurse, I thought he would implement a more fluid offense like this one...

Still waiting...

That OKC team is something else. They have so many quality pieces. Presti has shown how to many assets perfectly

Franz with usage is as good as Paolo if not better just because of his defense. His impact metrics have been elite couple seasons just doesn't have the gaudy boxscore stats.

On the flip side, the Sixers look old. I'm sad for Kyle who should have retired. Paul George and Joel Embiid are taking a lot longer to recover from their injuries and aches. Even with McCain/Maxey, the Sixers look like a play-in team.

His 3-point shooting has been suspect - like Scottie's - but he's at 36% this season so far at 6 attempts per game. He had a bad tournament in 2021, and may have slipped a bit in the draft. I remember Fran Frachilla wasn't high on Franz (although Fran was big on Sengun, so he knows a thing or two).

2021 was a pretty good draft. I can't get heated about whether Scottie is #1 or #6. They're all great players.

How does this make sense? And he's only going to play home games in the G league? I hate how this father-son thing is being promoted by ESPN etc as if it's some heartwarming story. 4 year contract? Is he really going to be an NBA player after his father retires?

Ya the Sixers don't look good right now. I suspect it is because PG and Embiid have missed training camp and are playing themselves into shape still. They are better than their current record. The probably sneak into the playoffs via play-in or 6th in the East.

But to my point...when is the last time a guard we drafted made the impact that McCain and Maxey have made as rookies? The last one that comes to mind was Norm but still took him about 4 years to be consistent.

Embiid is the least self-aware guy in the league.

Is it amazing?

He's 2.4% under his career-average TS%. Career-worst FTr. Second-highest 3PAr of his career. Worst 3P% of his career so far on career-high volume. He's been incompetent past 10 feet on a whole new level.

A lot of that is a straight-up shooting slump coupled to shooting more than usual from 3. Some of it will settle. He'll probably get back to being a truly crappy 54% TS scorer instead of a monstrously-wretched 51.6% TS scorer sooner rather than later.

Embiid remains the best player on the team but they need someone like Maxey to get their business together, for sure. Hopefully for them, it works instead of ripping the locker room apart.
