don't confuse daring to shoot a lot with caring. You could see that the huge French lead definitely bothered Kalnietis and he played his heart out there.

kalnietis truly was into the game, but when i looked at the box score and saw the 17 rebound disparity - to me it speaks about team hustle. i guess playing point guard shouldn't weigh as much on you in terms of rebounding as it should for the rest of the team, especially when there's nothing happening for them on offense.

Well, on the lighter note, JV made 15 out of 21 Lithuania's blocks during ALL tournament. While averaging only 16,5 minutes. I was disappointed in Kazlauskas approach with Jonas. During friendlies, he was used a lot, and it was very effective, and as tournament went on, JV was downgraded to 3rd string center. Absurd. Of course, we still got silver and it's great, I just think coach should have relied more on Valanciunas and achievements would be the same at very least, bonus you give more confidence to your future leader and make easier transition to young guns, as Lav and Javtokas seems to be retiring after this one (just a speculation). I hope he uses it as fuel during NBA season.

How many games did France will against superior opponents? Great Britain?, Belgium?, Ukraine? May be just the win against Spain (3rd place) could be counted, if you do not consider Lithuania (2nd place) as a superior team. France even managed to loose not only to Lithuania, but to Serbia (7th) and Germany (17-18th) as well.

Mission Failed :(

Coach overplayed Javtokas when I think JV would've performed better

The surprise is that France won with Parker having a terrible game. Finally guys such as Batum, Diaw and even Petro stepped up.

They were 1 game short. Everybody is talking about missing individual talents, but in my view, this tournament had some really good teams.

You are definitely right. Lithuania got a lucky draw, but they had to fight for that medal and it wasn't undeserved. A lot of good teams failed to do that. we saw Turkey and Russia standing hopeless, watching Finland getting past them, we saw Greece imploding. Same group B was solid. Montenegro and Macedonia were real dark horses, FYROM being 4th. place holder of last Eurobasket, and Montenegro being absolutely dominant team in qualification. Second round clinches were up for grabs in that group, and every game was a challenge.

Yes, I talked about this few days ago. If not mistaken, Lithuania should have 430 points after this, while Greece should drop to 377.

Lithuania claims silver and becomes #4 in FIBA ranking. Not bad. I would say players are really happy with silver (saw and read some post-game interviews) but the thing is it looked like that they stopped trying in the third quarter, the offense was static and they didnt want to do anything, just wait for Kalnietis to shoot...
Speaking of JV, he just wasnt good and he didnt deserve more minutes, IMO. He couldnt do anything, his game style has changed. He was OK in friendlies beause of weak opponents and because Lithuanian refs just called fouls for every touch in favour of Jonas.
Nevertheless, Im excited to see Jonas in NBA, he should be much better this year. 13.5/9/1.5! Mark it.

Yes that's what I'd like to point out too. JV is great against weak competition. He did serious damage in friendlies, and in games against weaker teams in Eurobasket. He did look lost/frustrated/ineffective against better teams. I think he still has a long way to go psychologically, though I find it strange, as he was used to the pressure while leading our juniors to various titles. Not the case it seems.
I expect big things from him in the future though, to impose his will on the game more, to rise to become a leader. It should come with maturity. Hopefully he will take a step forward this season in NBA.

If someone told me before Eurobasket has started, that we'd get silver, I'd be very happy with it. France just wanted it more I guess. Overall great results, dunno how can anyone blame the coach after that. There will always be mistakes and criticism, it is expected, as there are no coach who always takes the right decisions. Kazlauskas did great imo. His job was not to develop JV, but to win.

Can't blame him for not producing against the better teams. He didn't get a fair chance to with so little playing time.

Ech, silver is bitter, especialy after toothless fight in finals. But if someone would ask me, how would i feel about silver before whole thing started, i would be extatic. Sadly only Kleiza and Kalnietis showed up too play, rest of team was coasting. Kazlauskas said he made some mistakes in rotations, that was (i think) letting Javtokas in for Darius instead of JV. And yah, im abit disapointed in how coach managed young guys whole tourney. Team was coreless, w/o leader and hes minions.

Question : can someone give link too Raptors shedule for pre-season ?

Btw, someone should rename thread "JV at Raptors 2014", so we Lithuanians, would have place to stop by and whine about everything :)

I think this thread will be locked soon b.c. its 170 pages. There are always a ton of JV threads on this board nevertheless.

If anything, perhaps you can create a new one in several weeks.

agree it was a weak draw but Italy and Croatia (last 2 teams they beat) were both top teams in this tournament and Lithuania crushed Croatia
