So that’s some kind of “sweet lemons”? Everyone who know a bit of international basketball knew that this team even without all this cancellations wouldn’t have it easy. Without them absolutely no chance passing first round. Just a shame that now when basketball is so popular here we cannot field a good team.

This team USA really could've used Lowry. They have too many me first scorers that dont do much else. Tatum, Mitchell, Barnes, and Kemba to a lesser extent skill sets overlap so much.

That USA-Turkey game was insane. Turkey basically gifted the Americans the win.

Maybe Canada will have a chance at making the 2024 Olympics

Can we still make the 2020 Olympics if we somehow get a wild card spot? You must assume we might be the most talented country (if everyone's there) to not be in the games.

Yes. But no Wild Cards will be given. Need to earn it by finishing high enough here (~top 22-23) to get into an Olympic Qualifier and then win that (Next June/July). It will be a six team tournament with likely a good European team we need to get past (we lost to France in the final in 2016). This was our easiest path if our guys showed up.

The thing is I don’t see all of Canada’s best players being there. It’s just frustrating because they have the talent to be one of the best countries in the world but the players simply don’t care.

And that’s why you shouldn’t bring the FIBA goaltending rules to the NBA.

So sad guy's won't play for Canada. I remember telling people to slow their role when they said we'd medal in 2020. At this rate we won't be in the Olympics for a long time.

I think wildcard is the more plausible scenario right now if you convince FIBA that you are bringing star power. But we have to find out how this plays out and what teams dont make it, anyhow I think chances are slim for Canada right now.

We will never get them all. But we are pumping so many guys into the NBA that 50% would be more than enough. Maybe even 25% if the best non-NBA guys showed as well - Ennis, Pangos, Ejim, Nicholson, Stauskas, Wiltjer. etc.
Add those guys to the right 4-6 NBA guys and it would be a legit team.

17 guaranteed NBA contracts this year. More to come next year. 2-4 more guys are hovering around the periphery of the NBA this season. 3-4 ex-NBA caliber guys in foreign leagues. The numbers will eventually just add up.

There is no wild card - what are you guys talking about?

Are you talking about the "next 8" for the Olympic Qualifier tournaments next summer? The 8 additional slots that will be given out beyond the 16 that qualify for the Olympic Qualifiers from this is WC? If so, those will be handed out based on FIBA ranking more than anything.

I always thought there was a team chosen, who did not qualify for the olympics, through a wild card process. Maybe they got rid of that or I'm thinking of something else.
