Masai has made it clear he is now an analytics/PER.

All his choices are now telegraphed.

You guys will love him once you see him play. He's going to be a solid, high energy, defensive minded bench player in this league for years to come. NBA comp: Thaddeus Young.

How many people here would have been upset if Masai drafted Norman Powell with the 20th pick last year? He would have turned out to be a steal even at #20, and yet people would have cried bloody murder because mock drafts had him as a 2nd rounder.

How many Raptors fans back in 1999 would have drafted Manu Ginobili with our 5th overall pick? We came out of that draft with Jonathan Bender while the Spurs got Ginobili with the 58th pick.

There's a reason why teams invest resources in scouting.

I honestly don't know anything about this guy so I trust Masai did his homework...looks like he's a great athlete who can rebound, block and has a decent shot...perhaps a better and bigger version of Run DMC ???

He looks like he can shoot put to about 10-15 feet. He's pretty similar to Davis really but significantly older of course.

He has a higher floor than those two. he also has a lower ceiling but Masai has been drafting like this in the last two drafts.

Does it really matter?

The team spends about eight months building a list. As players get drafted, they cross players off that list. When the pick came, the Raps took the next player down on their list.

Mock drafts, intel... none of that means much. You take the next player down the list. You order that list based on the criteria you believe makes the best NBAers.

The one video above says he's 2 years away from making an NBA roster

Indiana wanted Bender. Toronto wanted Antonio Davis and drafted for Indy.

After minimal Youtube scouting, I am perfectly fine with this pick. He isn't a flat-footed lumbering big like Alabi. He can also take guys off the bounce which was very pleasant to see. Good pick.
