We don't need "locker room "guys.... we need guys who can perform, in limited minutes, when called upon, in playoffs....

We can grab both. Priority is vets who can play in playoff games. The last spot or two can be used on a Zbo type. Great locker room vet that has been battle tested that can be a calming presence for guys in the playoffs. I really do hope we sign Zbo. The Grizzlies reunion would be nice but I love the experience he brings to the locker room. A very overlooked aspect (see how the Warriors talk about David West and miss his presence)

Raps must be negotiating or waiting on someone specific, because some of these guys being signed fill obvious needs

We have 3 open roster spots for getting these guys. Yes there's a list of players bought out. Not all of them are interested in coming here as there are a number of other teams looking to sign them. And of the buyout list, there's not even a handful of them that can perform "in limited minutes, when called upon, in playoffs..". I'd say the optimistic view is we'll get 1 of these players that can play and then you got 2 more open roster spots. Who do you want to fill that up with? Ben Mclemore or Pau Gasol?

Either they're waiting for someone specific or buyout candidates are playing for their next contract vs playing for a contender

He was a crappy option, a tanking team signing him is a good indication of that.

I've been hoping for a while that Tristan gets bought out. He'd be a great 4th big for us, even though he can't shoot.

That being said, he's putting up his best numbers this year and I haven't heard any buy out rumours.

My Pie-in-the-sky buyout acquisitions:

Derrick Rose - With the legal troubles behind him and resurgence on the court, he may be the best playmaker and Lowry-insurance I could see come available. While Minny has no real incentive to accept a buyout, other than a really good deed, I can see a scenario where they do if they finally fall out of the playoff race for good.

Chandler Parsons - Viewed as a flier, if he does have anything left in the tank he may be able to provide some shooting and high bball iq as a backup forward. I'd consult Gasol heavily on this.

Pau Gasol - If he's willing to be a third center, and wants to finish his career playing with his brother and national team head coach, this would be a fit. I would expect his contribution to be more vetrans presents than anything else, but he could have utility in Monroe's old role, if the top two guys were to miss any time. The buyout may be tricky due to his option next year, but maybe Pau would be willing to concede enough to make it worth the Spurs while.

He won't get bought out. Likely playing for his next and last big contract

It wouldn't make sense for them to waive him since he's under contract for next season and could be a trade chip in the offseason (if they don't want to keep him). Most waived/bought-out players are vets on expiring contracts.

I was hoping for Pau after the above discussion but now as a I read about it, I think he still wants to play meaningful minutes. Here's an article from SA about him after trade deadline:

https://www.expressnews.com/sports/spurs/article/Spurs-notebook-Gasol-doing-best-to-accept-13604405.php

A foot injury that sidelined him for 26 games in November and December resulted in Gasol losing his spot in coach Gregg Popovich’s rotation. Now he’s trying to accept being reduced to spot duty.

“I focus every day, to stay ready, to do my best, to control what I can control, to be a professional and to be a good teammate,” Gasol said. “That’s all I can do. That’s the best I can do. Obviously, it’s not ideal.”

He'll get even less playing time here. Although on the other hand, if he also really cares about playing for his national team in this summer's World Cup and 2020 Olympics, then what better way to come here with your brother and coach talk to and prepare.

I don't get everyone's fascination with bringing zbo, the guy hasn't played basketball in how many years now?! He's way past his prime and probably put on a few pounds.

We need someone to contribute, we have enough veteran presence. Only way you sign zbo if you plan on giving Boucher non garbage time minutes. Other than that pointless signing.

I'm not on the sign ZBo boat, but the discussion here is that the team has 3 open roster spots. If they decide to fill up all 3 spots, then it is VERY obvious not all 3 are going to even get the opportunity to contribute, when there's already 12 players (+ a 2-way) on the roster and our actual regular rotation is 8 deep (leaving out OG and McCaw as possibilities of being replaced in the rotation). Ideally you get (1) proven shooter and (2) proven PF and then (3) whatever or none at all to save lux tax

Tolliver would be a solid pickup as a backup 4. Interesting that it seem like Masai first had deals lined up for guys like Mirotic and Tolliver and when they fell through Gasol was his fallback option to at least upgrade the roster somehow.

Yet some disgruntled fans are acting like Gasol was Masai's main plan at the TDL and he ignored the need for bench shooting lol.
Raptors clearly wanted a stretch 4 but none of those teams probably wanted to take salary back. So flipping Miles to them was a no go.

I think I like Malcom Miller more than I like Stauskas. Both are the same age. Both shoot 3's. One plays defense..

Both are end of bench guys anyhow.

i find it hard for better/younger guys to sign with the Raps because all they want to do is play for a contract. they look at the Raps roster and find that there isn't much leeway to showcase themselves.
