The current squad has about the same talent level as the squad Ujiri took over back in 2013-2014. Did he tank to build a rebuild? There are multiple ways to build your asset base to a level of a contender. The Raptors spent the greater part of this last decade proving this but for some reason tank nation has struggled to absorb what they saw unfold before them.

The 2013-2014 NBA that squad was better in my honest opinion, especially after the Rudy trade which brought much needed shooting and depth with Vasquez and Patterson. You had two players who could create off the dribble and actually get theirs whenever they wanted to. We actually had a well balanced post presence with JV and Amir and played extremely well defensively for the talent we had. This current team has very glaring holes at the frontcourt positions and again it has no number 1 or 2 option who you could say here's the ball go score. Siakam, Fred, and OG went from being underrated to overrated really quickly because of that championship. I don't blame them we need to fully accept and embrace the tank.

Here is the reality. This team lost 2 starters, lost home court advantage and have to deal with relocating their family. Thats a lot of bad things going against the Raptors. As bad as they have looked right now, and its very very bad. They have been competitive in all their games.

Taking a look at the big picture, if this losing trend continues and the team is 5 or 10 games below .500 heading into Allstar break, there should be serious considerations to explore trading Lowry, Norm and Baynes because they are expiring and perhaps even explore moving Siakam in the right deal.

Taking a look at the past 10 seasons, how many championship teams remained competitive after losing its superstars or main pieces? Mavs lost Chandler, Kidd, and Barea in 2012 and remained a playoff team but soon fell out of the playoff picture after 3 seasons. The Heat lost LeBron and immediately became a lottery team. Warriors lost Durant and now they look like a completely different team albeit they are without Klay as well.

It takes a lot of assets to assemble a championship team and if a team loses major pieces in consecutive seasons, sooner or later, its going to catchup and the team will start to trend downwards. Thats the reality the raptors are facing right now.

As much as I love what Lowry has done for this franchise and would love for him to stay the rest of his career in an ideal world, it would be beneficial to this team’s long term success to make that trade as soon as possible. It would also be doing him a favour as well as I’m sure he will hate playing with these slugs the next few months.

All championship/contending runs come to an end eventually and we are seeing ours at the moment. The loss of Gasol and Ibaka (and replacing them with essentially no one) just accelerated the process. The only way out of that inevitable decline would have been to make the Hail Mary Harden trade, but that gets less likely by the day.

We need to embrace a tank because we dont have a strong roster consisting of guys like Vasquez, Patterson, Amir Johnson? I think you are confusing asset management with roster balance. They are two different things.

i agree somewhat. as much as i am a big supporter of blowing it up, i was perfectly fine with letting that roster run it back for a year. they earned that after a great run that brought us a championship, many of us never even expected a finals trip lol. but yea now, its pretty cclear, our best player is lowry who is 35 and others have shown to be good but to be a legit contedner you need a legit game breaking talent which we dont have atm. now if we have harden... then we in business.

I think you mean "a" number one overall pick is "involved" in 20/30 NBA titles.

Only four first overall picks in the past 40 years have actually won a title with the team that drafted them. Magic Johnson, Hakeem Olajuwon, Tim Duncan and LeBron James. In the past 40 years you have had a 10% chance at landing a player that would actually lead YOUR team to a championship.

"Wow! 10%! You would be a fool not to take that!" You might say. And in a vacuum, sure. But that's if you get the first overall pick. With the worst record in the league, you have a 25% chance at the 1st overall pick. That brings the percentage down from 10 to 2.5%.

That's 2.5 times out of 100, or once every 40 seasons losing the most games in the league, that you will land the 1st overall pick and also win a championship with it.

You all have such short term memory. Maybe go and look at the list of lottery teams and how many years these teams have been there. Have you ever thought about the fact that most treadmill teams are actually lotto teams? Some of them have been in the top 5 over and over and still are in the lotto at the end of the season. But no, you all bet on hope and prayers. None of you tankers should ever gamble. Don't even buy a lotto ticket. You'll probably ruin yourselves chasing that high.
