NOs needs a big wing defender because Ingram and McCollum aren't good and when they run up against elite wings, they will have problems.

They already have Herbert Jones and Trey Murphy.

navyblue get outta here with your objectivity & facts, it doesn't belong in this thread.

I'm a bit confused what constitutes tanking. If we end up with, say, the 7th pick this year... Then we would have gotten the 4th overall and 7th overall in 2 out of 3 years. And the 4th we tanked part of the season for.

Is it only tanking if we sell-off all of our players, minus maybe Barnes? That seems pretty drastic, especially when we're going to get a pretty good pick regardless.
And the highest percentage chance of getting the 1st overall is 14% (versus our 9ish % now).

We could end up after this season with Barnes, GTJ (24 years old), OG (25 years old), Precious (23 years old). Plus a lottery pick and a top-30 player in the league in Siakam. We are already rebuilding, no?

Not really because it gave the team better cap flexibility, an extra bench piece and the team won 48 games. We were 31-23 when the trade was made.

And no one drafted in that 20-32 range has set the world on fire.

Facts.. that Thad Young trade was just stupid.. we moved down in a draft for a washed up player

It won't be pretty if we go down that route, but if there's one thing I feel confident about this FO is they almost never pay the tax lol.

So some moves would be done to ensure that we're under at least at some point. If we don't trade any starter(s) this deadline, we'd probably try to dump Boucher for an expiring to help stay under the tax next year in the event we re-sign both Fred + Gary.

Of course, I would rather we trade at least some starter(s) for cap flexibility and more importantly prospects/picks so we can improve roster construction down the road.

A maxed out team with this same roster isn't exactly a recipe for success. Though you do need to keep those salaries or trade for salaries of equal value since the Raptors won't be able to sign anyone of significance.

If you dump Boucher, who do you replace him with? The bench is already ass the way it is. The way I look at it is, the only way to stay under the luxury tax with a playable team is to trade few of the starters for role players.

Salary cap is going to double in a couple years.

Current tv deal is 2.6 per year.

A bunch of really bad contracts are going to be handed out in 2025.

It wouldn't be ideal for sure. I would prefer to trade some starters for long term assets as well. I just feel pretty confident the FO won't be willing to pay the tax next year for more or less the same team. So I anticipate some cap gymnastics would be done if need be either at the trade deadline or in the off-season to stay under the tax.

When has Masai ever made a treadmill trade?

Signing Aron Baynes. Trading Norm, GJT is just going to leave as a FA. Didn't win anything with him here. Trading a 1st for Thad. Lots of treadmill moves.

Raptors need to get rid of FVV if he signs with Klutch and then demands 4 years $130mill.....trade him to Lakers for Westbrook+picks.

what's even the point of all of that?

This roster as its constructed isn't winning anything and will make players unhappy.

Trade your vets and start new. It isn't that complicated.

With Bobby and Masai at GS, maybe GS goes the small ball route more. That has some interesting trades paths.

The optics are enough though, them sitting in the crowd.

Kessler with 10 pts, 7 rebounds, 4 blocks at halftime tonight. Not bad.

On pace
For 26-30
16 games until trade deadline including last night vs Charlotte. I guessed our record. I will update after each game.

(17-23)

Jan 10 - Charlotte - W (18-23)
Jan 12 - Charlotte - W (19-23)
Jan 14 - Atlanta - W .... Loss (19-24)
Jan 16 - @ NY - L .... Win (20-24)
Jan 17 - @ Milwaukee - L (20-25)
Jan 19 - @ Minnesota - L (20-26)
Jan 21 - Boston - L (20-27)
Jan 22 - NY - W (21-27)
Jan 25 - @ Sacramento - L ... Win (22-27)
Jan 27 - @ G.S. - L (22-28)
Jan 28 - @ Portland - L …. Win (23-28)

Jan 30 - @ Phoenix - L
Feb 1 - @ Utah - W
Feb 3 - @ Houston - W
Feb 5 - @ Memphis - L
Feb 8 - San Antonio - W

Feb 9 = Trade Deadline.

7-9 record as per above (24-32). But lets say we get 2 extra wins and go 9-7 instead, we would be (26-30).

To put things in perspective on Feb 9 of last year (deadline was Feb 10), our record was 30-23.
