Glass half full: he’s a sounding board for Bobby on the business related responsibilities he’ll have picked up and may actually be able to provide helpful advice in that area.

Glass half empty: all decisions go through him despite his knowing significantly less about basketball than the median poster on this board.

Creating a one MLSE culture, what does it even mean? What cross promotion is he talking about? How will it help either team?
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

This guy sweats corporate buzzwords and HR type fluff sentences. It is who he is.

If you listen, he calls himself a 'great sounding board." Then says something about how the players are going to attend other sports more. This already happens, but I guess his idea is 'more.' He was hired to fire Shanny and Ujiri and eat the media criticism to shield Ed Rogers. His job is basically being another rogers bot to give out nothing comforting and then say, 'was that helpful?'

To me, your glass half empty is actually my half full. He knows so little about basketball that, unless he wants to completely run his entire reputation of his career into the absolute ground, he will not interfere in basketball decisions by giving his two cents.

Cool. So we lose a well respected basketball lifer who built a championship team here and replace him with a guy who has zero basketball knowledge or experience. Im sure Bobby will really appreciate that "sounding board".

Ive run into people like this guy my entire career. Fancy suit, corner office, huge salary...and dont know a damned thing about anything but think they know more than everyone else.

I know him as the former head of Rogers Media about 15 years ago. He's Rogers hatchet man and mouthpiece.

Zero value added and slimy.

Hah, through most of my 20 year career as an ardent Raptors fan, including 12 years as a SSH, I've been aware of the schism between vaguely (or obviously) racist puckheads and the cool basketball vibe. You used to be able to see it in the Sportsnet (recently eliminated) comment section, when the puckheads would basically comment "who cares?" after every Raptors story, and point out how many more comments an equivalent Leafs story would generate.

So the only thing I can think of is that MLSE wants to somehow bridge that divide. I remember in Vladdy Jr's rookie season he was at a Raptors game, and when he was announced to the SBC crowd he got a huge cheer. Did that also happen at Leaf games? I dunno. Blue Jays aren't a part of MLSE or within Pelley's bailiwick, but with the success of the resurgent Jays and everything now owned by Rogers, it seems an obvious move to try and leverage the Jays brand by bringing them into this cross-promotion strategy.

Soon, Blue Jays will be under the MLSE umbrella... once Larry is bought out.

These cross-promotions already occur. It was funny to see the summer league interview where Jamal Shead said that Mogbo showed up in the 3rd period of a Leafs' playoff game. Maybe Pelley is going to demand they show up in the first? To me, it tracked as Pelley really only has busy work right now because he's done the dirty deed of removing the presidents.

I think because you don't follow all the Toronto teams the divide seems more obvious to you. When I talk to people that don't watch hockey, or don't watch basketball it seems like there is a cultural reason. But, the majority of sports fans I speak to follow all the teams. There's just way more of those. But if you have a cultural reason for not liking a particular sport, then of course that's what you're going to talk about.

Guy wants to be a main character when he really needs to never be heard from.

wouldn't surprise me....

i mean it's not the worst thing in the world.
While it seems like there maybe some Richard Peddie vibes where the meddling could hurt the team, hopefully he has a decent pulse on the team, and doesn't make rash decisions.

Sometimes realgmers insights turn out good, and sometimes bad.
