This kid has every tool you could want to have a shot at sticking in the NBA except for the drive and work ethic for it. Makes me sad to see.

Just. Wait. Until. Next. Year.

Not sure why that is such a controversial take, but for some reason it has been.

I am a big believer in the concept that a player's development depends as much on where he lands as it does on the player himself. The prime example I always come back to is Rajon Rondo. Do we even know who he is if he lands in Sacramento instead of that stacked Celtics team?

Banton may be another example. Local beat writers have alluded to him having difficulty separating work from home life when he was in T.O. I can relate. I left Halifax for London for post-grad because I had way too much of a life in Halifax and needed to focus.

I am pulling for Banton. And I do look at the end of our bench and wonder why there wasn't room for him (not like his space has been filled with better players OR better stories). But this may turn out to be necessary for Banton.

That, and I also remember some gawful (God+awful) sequences where Banton was absolutely lost on the court. So let's not assume we relinquished something of true value here until he shows year-over-year development.

Eh - I dont got to wait until next year to know the guy is just not good.

Exactly what I predicted happened is what happened. AS soon as his unsustainable 3 point %'s came back down to earth his entire game crumbled.

HE just finished the season as the 3rd most inefficient player in the NBA at a 50.4TS%. Only ahead of Scoot and Talen Horton-Tucker.

Considering his best trait RN is scoring, and he sucks at it, I am pretty damn confident we dont need to wait until next year to find out he is not a rotation player barring some massive improvement this summer.

How do you go 0-15 from 3 as a non regular rotation player and a teammate doesn't get in your face to knock it off? He must have had the green light from Billups. How do you not even hit one by accident?

Wouldn't be surprised if the added minutes for Banton are adding up and he's gassed.

He front rimmed his first shot 20 seconds into the 1st Q, can't be gassed then

The overall wear and tear of a season can definitely gas you out early in a game. He may have come into the game with dead legs.

Seems pretty tinfoil hatty.

The guy has played 1000 minutes this year. If his conditioning is that bad in his 3rd NBA season then he is completely cooked as an NBA player.

He played 700 with the Raps over 64 games
Then 279 over 31 games with the Celtics.
Then he drops 875 over 30 games with Portland.

750 of those in the last 24 games averaging like 32-34 minutes a game for the first time in his career. He's never average more than 15 minutes a game in a month before.

I agree with you that I don't think his 3 was as good as he was shooting. But you don't just ramp up to those minutes and not see any sort of impact night to night on your legs and stamina.

Lol what kind of team is the Blazers to give this guy the green light like that though? Anyways, I still believe in his abilities but certainly you can’t treat him like he’s Steph Curry.
