Would be interesting if the Rockets get KD and the package is Green, Smith and the 10th pick. Phoenix probably not wanting to tie up their entire payroll on Green, Booker and Beal might re-route Green to Toronto for RJ, Dick and a future first. RJ they can assess for a year and can also extend. They also get a young guard in Dick on rookie scale salary. Squeeze out an extra pick. Green is not at Booker’s level at the moment.

For the Raps it’s another path towards a better offensive team as now you have Green and Ingram as your 1-2 scoring. I’m quite high on Green and feel over the next 5 years he will be top five in scoring in the league. Timeline is good a well. Should a Giannis deal materialize you still have assets you can move to get a deal done.

As long as we don’t give up #9 I like the option over going after KD. At worst you create flexibility next year by removing RJs salary and if you have reservations about signing Jakob to a big contract next year why not look to move him? I like the idea of:

RJ + Poeltl + Dick + 2026 1st rounder

For

Durant + Richards (done in a 2 part trade with a TE or Gradey).

IQ / Shead
Ingram / Ja’Kobe
Durant / Ochai
Barnes / Mogbo
Richards / Maluach (#9)

Yes Richards isn’t an ideal starting C but serviceable. You could remove him if you feel you can acquire one elsewhere but the FA market is bleak (Capela maybe?).

2 expiring vets that help now. A young big to add to the Scottie timeline
I'd prefer to keep Stew and give Monte Morris
I'd really prefer to keep Morris and Stew and give the great Killian Hayes and 2nd round picks

and that's it

next is atlanta who will be $22 mil over the cap

so any fear of losing a free agent outright, as of today, comes down to brooklyn and i dont see a kd reunion there.

if kd wants to leave then it will have to be via a s&t which means we will get *something* back.

That is wrong. Chicago, utah, Washington all have significant cap to name a few

Miami can get max space if they trade wiggins or Herro

i was going by this

I think this is the most we would go. We are not giving up #9 for 1 yr of KD
ur basically swapping RJ and Agbaji for BI and KD ... super upgrade in talent but Alex Mckecknie would have to work overtime.

No, we are giving up too much. KD is 37 and might leave after one year. This is not the Kwahi situation.

What of value are we even giving up there? One year of Poeltl and a 3+D role guy in Ochai?

I can't fathom why the Suns would even consider that.

We are giving up 3 rotation players and two picks for a guy that is gone after a year and is old. As i said, this is not kwahi we are trading for.
RJ + two 2nd round picks. That is the highest i would go.

The Raptors simply don't have enough talent to go overpaying for a 36 year old expensive player who has never won except when he joined a dynasty and who could be gone in a year.

Is there another version of Desmond Bane out there? Someone like him would be a better fit with this core

If Memphis has renewed interest they can reroute KCP/Cole to the Suns and add Edey and Clarke plus 1 of the picks for KD before finalizing the Desmond trade.

That gets you a KD rental and a cleaner cap next year for cheap ownership

Barrett has negative value to NBA teams given the level of player he is and his contract.

If Kevin Durant only plays one season with his new team, how many teams will be able to sign him as a FA ala Kawhi Leonard & the Clippers?

History may repeat itself with a decorated star on an expiring contract sitting atop the NBA trade market.

Kawhi Leonard made the most of his one season with the Toronto Raptors, winning a championship in 2018-19 before leaving in free agency. ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported Sunday on SportsCenter the Raptors could take the same bet with Kevin Durant.

"He had a list of teams he preferred to go to," Windhorst said of Leonard. "He had one year left on his contract, and the Toronto Raptors were willing to roll the dice as a possible rental. And once again, you don't see Toronto on Durant's list, but the Raptors are one of the teams lurking out there, who may be willing to do this without knowing that they can keep Durant on an extension, and basically potentially be a rental. And I think there's a couple others, including the Los Angeles Clippers, and potentially even the Minnesota Timberwolves. This is still wide open. Maybe Durant gets what he wants, maybe he has to accept something else."

Ya. Barrett isn't good. He'd be a productive 6/7 guy on a good club. People have to come to terms that Masai has been trying to trade him for a while and NO preferred Kelly/Brown and FRP instead of him. That should tell you all you need to know about his value around the league.

If he wins a championship with the team that trades for him...he would stay at least one more year.

I wonder if instead of Durant we can be a trade facilitator. If we could get a 2025 frp it would be ideal.

I think a team like Phoenix might want Ochai and IQ as part of a return for Durant.

How I think Masai views it.

Masai has 1 year on his deal, might as well try and make a big splash.

If you add KD and Richard's, that gives you a C replacement body for 1 year. Could draft Queen to be the small ball C and playmaking C with 2nd unit. Richard's leaves after 1 year then Chomche replaces him. But also likely they look for a C as the season goes on...like they did Gasol.

If KD doesn't want to re-sign, a.S&T is likely still out there to "recoup" some of what you spent. But you still had him for the year to: sell tickets, sell merchandise, put more eyes on the team, Masai shows Kawhi wasn't a 1 off fluke, the team gets better, etc... So Masai has lots of reasons to do the trade.

And if the team flops, they could still trade KD at the deadline if they want and recoup assets spent.

And of course, does adding KD now possibly lead to adding Giannis at the deadline. That could be the big play.
