Pitt freshman Khem Birch has decided to leave the team, Pitt announced tonight. Birch, a 6-foot-9 freshman, was a McDonald's All-American and Jamie Dixon's highest rated recruit since taking over as Pitt's head coach in 2003.

"Khem has decided to leave the team for personal reasons," Dixon said in a statement. "We thank Khem for his contribution to our program over the last semester and wish him great success in the future."

Wow, and he was starting. Rumor on the Pitt board is that he hated playing center, wanted to be at his natural pf spot.

OT:Khem Birch

Apparently on his way back to T.O. Left Pitt and has asked for a transfer. WTF? Anybody got any insight here. Sounds like we've got a problem child. Leaving a top Div 1 program in your first year does not bode well for him.

So when could we sign Birch, theoretically?

That's messed up...

"I'm leaving," Birch told CBSSports.com on Friday night. "I'm headed to Toronto now. I enjoyed my time at Pittsburgh, I love Coach (Jamie) Dixon, had no problems with the staff and the players. It just wasn't the right fit for me."

Doesn't sound like he had any problems..

He has to enter the draft first before we can sign him. He could enter the draft in 2012 if he wants.

At a minimum someone would take a flyer on him in the second round... he was productive in his minutes.

I hope he stays in college and goes somewhere he can contribute alot between Jan 2013-Mar 2913 in the NCAA.

I would love for Syracuse to get him -- he would be a beast playing one of the bottom corners in the 2-3. A bigger Hakim Warrick. But SU has alot of young depth, so it may not make sense for him.

Maybe someone like Kansas would be a good fit.

Why Toronto, isn't he from Montreal.

It wasn't the right fit for him because he wanted to play PF. He should have just stuck it out he probably would have ended up being drafted late first round because of his potential much like Corey Joseph.

Syracuse is stacked up front with another big man coming in next year. Not a tonne of minutes available

Lovin the recaps. What a great thing for us lazy people. New Mexico State must have set a record with Canadian players this season.
That's what she said.

Daniell Mullings was another kid that came thru my rec centre very often. Athletic wise I knew he could ball in the NCAA, I didn't think his overall game was that nice tho. From what it looks like tho hes a stopper on the wings. He's had multiple steals in games a lot of times so far already.

I remember watching Daniel Mullings at the All Canada Classic at the ACC and he impressed me the most as I had no idea who was going into the game. Very athletic for a guy his size. I think he will continue to play well if he gets minutes.

Based on stats it seems like Kris is playing better each game.

Yup. I've been a diehard Zags fan for 12 years and Pangos is the real deal. He destroyed Nored, who was the two time Final Four all defense team and Kevin made him look silly; crossovers, stutter steps, fade away threes in his face. KP is only a freshman and is already sick.
