This is what we’re built for as Raps fans
I love serge but you guys got to be kidding.
He didn't even see the floor during crunch time when we were facing elimination. He was our sixth man.
Fred was the key guy. If he left...our whole future was in jeopardy. Signing serge would've done the opposite....putting our future in jeopardy. None of this is controversial with anyone in the know. It's why serge wasn't even mentioned by our GM during interviews leading up to the free agent period.
Fred generates wins. I love serge...but he's not a win generator.
As someone who didn't really care if either Ibaka or VanVleet came back because I don't see this team contending next year; if you don't think Ibaka had a very positive impact on this team and impacted wins, I don't know what to tell you. I mean, you can look into Win Shares. Fred does have a higher WS (5.8 vs 3.9) but in the playoffs, Ibaka had a slight edge (1.3 vs 1.2). And just to compare the year prior, Ibaka was 6.1 vs Fred's 4.3 - with both playing a similar amount of minutes, unlike this season.
And there lies the problem, Fred has had numerous struggles in the playoffs and has shown that he isn't the best at running the team. When his shot is on, he's good and it opens up the floor. But there are many times where his shot isn't falling and he'll force his game and it just becomes ugly to watch. Plus, he's one of the worst offensive players from the 3-point line in. That isn't good and isn't easily fixable because It has a lot to do with his size and him not being overly athletic.
