I agree with your first sentence only. His price-tag is going to be small and he has the potential to be a rotation big. Even experience in a Nurse-run system. Give him time to show his worth (that means more than the games we have left this season).

Regardless of his quality as a player, this is really great sign for the Raptors and probably for the Canadian national team. Not because of Birch obviously (though he’s a fine backup who is better than people think) but being ‘super excited to play under Nurse and in his home country is progress.

You're not wrong, but damn.. what a low bar this franchise has set. Lol.

Just curious, have you heard Holmes say something to that effect? My understanding is that he's a UFA, not RFA, so I'm not sure why Sacramento would have that much of an advantage. It's not like they have tons of cap space either since Fox's extension kicks in next year, and they still have the big salaries of Hield and Barnes on their books (as well as another $20 mil or so wrapped up in Bagley and Wright).

He's stated last year how much he loves Sacramento and also this spring reiterates that he's finally found his NBA home. I figure if they give him anything reasonable over the MLE he will sign for 5 years (5th year player option). Seeing players like Thompson, Ibaka only getting the MLE for 2 years, he's gotta know there aren't that many teams that can offer more than the MLE.

I could see him getting around $12 million with raises. Like a Lou Williams or Jordan Clarkson like signing.

From April 15, 2020.

https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/kings/richaun-holmes-loves-sacramento-hopes-finish-career-kings

“I absolutely love Sacramento,” Holmes told NBC Sports California. “This community, this city, these fans -- have shown me, in my short time here, that I really couldn’t see myself playing anywhere else. I would love to play here the rest of my career. I love to play in front of these fans, be a part of this community -- this is a great place to be and I’d love just to be a part of it.”

Richaun isn’t the only Holmes family member to be accepted with open arms in Sacramento. His mother and father, Dr. Lydecia Homes and Dr. Richard Holmes, have become fan favorites as well.

The Holmes celebrate each win with an Instagram celebration and now his mother has turned to TikTok and is a sensation there as well.

Is Holmes caught off guard by the way the Sacramento community has embraced both he and his family so quickly?

“It was definitely shocking, but like you said, as soon as I got here, it felt like a perfect fit,” Holmes said. “From the team, to the fans, to the community, everybody shows love.”

“I can’t say enough how much I love this city, love these fans, love my teammates, love stepping out there in Sacramento in my jersey representing this city,” he said. “It’s been some of the best times of my life.”

“The preparation has met the opportunity and hopefully I can keep getting better and keep making big plays for this team,” Holmes said.

I think I’d give him between 10-13 and maybe as high as 15max anything else and he can rot is Sacramento lol. I think he would do good here.

I believe Hollinger stated his value is approx 16 million. Based on his impact, I believe he's right

In that case I pay it. I think he’s an impact player and who knows with our development system who’s to say he doesn’t develop a 33-36% 3point shot over the 3 or 4 years tho not holding my breath for that.

Imagine we get Holmes and Olynk with birch as 3rd string

Baynes is an ok 3rd string center for a good team.

Well, he's our 3rd string center right now.

Love Hoolmes' game. Soft touch and hands (PAUSE) at the hoop. Rebounds, blocks shots, and is a surprising nice passer. Or - at least he makes smart passes.

With that being said, he is going to command A LOT of money. Being 28 years of age coming October 2021, cashing in as a former 2nd round pick now...really worry about the drive after getting the bag.

Again, not opposed...however there is definitely a buyer beware component here.

He would be a 3rd string center on an ACC team in the NCAA, right now.

Ron Baynes would have to be a walk-on on a squad in a lesser known conference. Sadly.

other than sacramento having his bird rights, how many teams out there have the money to be offering these big contracts?

Pretty sure sacramento would go into the tax if they were to offer holmes a monster contract to retain him.

The only teams with decent cap space next year are the Knicks, Raptors, Spurs, Hornets and Heat.

Touche.

Sac would be idiots to throw big money at Holmes. They already have money committed to Buddy, Harrison Barnes, Fox (I think - or he is at least due to get the bag). Committing to Holmes may not be the best financial decision for a team like the Kings.

Haliburton will be due for a nice pay day in 2 seasons.

Bring on Richaun!

This signing kind of makes no sense for this season. The guy is already 28 years old and the Raptors would do better to gun for a top pick.

Bring in the backup center for next year so he can learn the system from now. I don’t see why not. He is not adding wins to this team lol

Khem birch isnt going to single handedly swing the projection of this team lol. Plus unless masai can pull a trade out of thin air this offseason our C spot is still going to be shaky. We need to look at bigs

We can probably only afford one of Holmes or Olynyck. Olynyck will look for MLE money IMO. Holmes is better and is easily a 32 min/game player. Gillespie/Birch and small ball should take care of the rest

They may try to move Bagley or Hield. Bagley sucks (but could be salvaged) so they may need to include a pick to get out of his salary.

I know Kelly would be a stretch just kinda wishing he’d sign for a discount to play for the raps but tbh there wouldn’t be enough time for him with bouche the first big off the bench so I’m happy with Holmes/Bouche/birch/2nd rd pick or Gillespie

Geez. They re-signed Bagley too? No wonder Divac is gone.

Bagley is so bad.

Return to Toronto Raptors
