Yup, only tanked for 2 years, traded away their star player for picks and a prospect in SGA. Youngest roster in the NBA, missing their top pick this year and almost a playoff team. They were just in the playoffs in 2020, George demanding a traded worked out of them.

Took on bad contracts for picks, flipped Russ for CP3 and picks, then flipped CP3 more picks. They've made some mistakes along the way but are in a great spot, should've kept Sengun. But no ones perfect.

too bad chet is out. would have been even more fun. SGA is a top 10 player, legit superstar. Giddey is super unique and young with loads of upside and showing it. been hot these past few weeks. last 10 games they are 6-4, his net rating is 5.6. averaging 20, 8reb,6asst, 59%TS

If Chet can avoid injury (big if), that team is a contender in a few seasons.

This would have been a perfect tank week if only the Lakers could have pulled off the win.

I dunno man, depending on how the deadline goes, we might be acquiring that LAL 1st, so them losing is potentially what we want.

LAL's 2023 FRP is already traded to Pels.

If we trade with LAL, we would get their 2027 FRP and beyond

so more LAL wins this season the better

Yeah that's what I meant. We would be trading with NOP and potentially getting LAL's 1st that way.

They have a pick swap with LA this year and there's no way they're giving that up for VanVleet. They also have the Bucks' pick next year which I'm sure they'd rather use.

Not if they land the 1st pick.

Man I remember praying we'd not make that Thad trade & just rest guys ie/ Fred, so even if we didn't "tank" per say to get back into that 7-8 range for one of Daniels or Sharpe, we could at least be in a range to grab either him or AJ. Would've made parting with Gary very easy. Just hoping history doesn't repeat itself this season.

Iv been wrong before but im 100% certain masai isnt dealing our 2023 first as we will have a losing record by deadline and likely sitting bottom 10. Lottery protected or not u dont make that trade this season only for the lesser protection to carry over next season

Went a bit too far, too soon lol

Within 2 years?! I highly, HIGHLY doubt that but IF Chet can remain healthy + whatever high pick this year (lawd help us if it's Victor), that team WOULD contend within a FEW years imo it's more so 3-4 years out. But once all these guys REALLY develop (remember most of the top young players don't really take off until 24+) but then when those guys do ANNNND they still have a BOATLOAD of draft picks for whatever MONSTER deal they want to make....Presti legit has given OKC a chance to checkmate the league.

But I'm with you & others (including shoutout Zach Lowe lol) that OKC is going to stun a lot of casual fans with how good they are within the next 2 years. I think you're going to see a NOP like jump & maybe even scarier base of talent. Pending health, those who don't see how you can build through the draft will through OKC & NOP. Their potentials could be scary depending on how they play their cards & so far it's looking pretty damn good.

I mean, if SGA keeps progressing, Giddey's defense isn't a problem, the Chet pick lands and they're able to spend their draft capital at the right time for win-now veterans.

They definitely have the pieces, young potential and draft capital. But so much can go wrong as well.

Still a long ways away, knows how good Chet will be. But looks likes they can be a 6th-8th seed soon, the next time a star becomes available or demands a trade they can easily beat most offers with all their picks.

Well I wouldn't say "so much" vs one particular thing -- health, in particular Chet Holgrem.

That's the biggest risk right now. Others include SGA losing patience, Giddey being an offense force but a net neutral because of poor defense, their draft capital not having as much real world vs presumed value.

Hell, this team had a Durant, Westbrook, Harden, Ibaka core and didn't win a title. There is a lot that can go wrong in the next 2-5 years.
