If we get a top 6 pick we likely go for Malauch so we can explore moving Poeltl and saving on costs with Ingram's new contract pending

Its a good deal. Brought in for very cheap. Good asset accumulation. That's the name of the game now. Showcase him a bit going forward against the tough teams coming up to get a sample size of how he fits, then find an excuse to shut him down the rest of the season. Secure a top 5-8 pick.

Extending him to a reasonable contract becomes paramount now.

Have to assume Ingram is coming for ~$30m per, because otherwise we're going into the season as a tax team next year. So contract is fine. I don't like giving the pick up.

New Orleans Pelicans star Brandon Ingram reportedly down a contract worth $50 million a year

Even if he signs like a 120/3 year deal, I’m worries this guy is an injury prone glass man.

Having a >$40M guy on the bench is a surefire way to mediocrity in the NBA. Just look at the Pelicans and Hornets.

I'm not happy with the way the roster is currently constructed.

Atleast tanking gives you a path to finding the next best thing like we did with Scottie.

All this does is put us back to the middle of the pack.

You have to be in the middle of the pack before you end up at the head of the pack.
Post Siakam trade we started with brown nwora lewis and 3 frp. And end up with Ingram Walter and Ochai.
Maybe we trade Ingram and other assets for an available all star player.
Rebuilding is a process and not just about tanking

Totally different scenarios. The cost was much too steep for poetl. Almost non existent for ingram. You don't see the difference?

We added a borderline All Star averaging 22 pts a game...for 1 1st and cap filler.

We traded away a borderline All Star averaging 22 pts a game for 3 1sts and cap filler.

That's a tidy piece of work

Hey now, gotta put some respect on Siakam. He’s perennial all star not borderline. And should have more value than Ingram. I’ll say his return is looking better these days though as I really like Ochai/Walter and now Ingram.

in the East, Ingram is not borderline, he made the actual all star game before

He wont be out this whole season so hurts this years pick.
Gave up Indys pick which will be likely lotto with no protections.
Have to now re-sign Ingram.

This team is "tanking"

We could excuse him for being impatient because he knows he's about to be fired by Ed Rogers

And you guys are delusional if you think this team plans to rest him this season to preserve the tank.

He's as injury prone as OG,

He's also less valuable than OG and is the same age. At that point, we might as well have just held onto OG.

OG wanted out for about 1 year before he was traded. Can't live in the past. Same with Pascal. I don't understand why people bring that argument, both Pascal and OG wanted out.

Talent wise the trade is fair, but it's timing is weird. But if they wanted him they couldn't wait till the summer because we had the expiring contract of BB.

I will judge this trade favourably if they follow up accordingly:
- Get a losing record in the bottom 5
- extend Ingram under 40M per yr avg
- keep Davion as backup for cheap

We will also need a cheap serviceable center to backup Yak, next year. With the pick, or without a second similar to how GSW keep finding.

In a round about way, we basically traded Siakam for Ingram, Ochai, Walter, Shead and Mitchell.

I would like to see some protections on the Indy pick. I only wanted to do SRP's or a very protected FRP but either way it's not a massive overpay. It's very likely we can recoup assets on a sign and trade in a worst case scenario as only the Nets have cap space to sign him outright for his asking price.

Masai basically believing in the current core is the message I would get from this move and he's going all-in on the egalitarian offense approach

The Raptors haven’t been good since 2020 and after 5 years of retooling or whatever this was they finally have a core they can try to enter the playoffs with.

Ingram is a legit closer when healthy and having Barnes/RJ/Quickley/Poeltl gives him a decent enough supporting cast to compete in the playoffs.

Only issue is they should still tank away the season so we need to pray they land a top 10 pick in the draft who completes their core.

2026 playoffs confirmed

Boselecta wrote:This trade was a steal for us we essentially gave up two insignificant pieces in Brown and Olynyk, plus a first-round pick that will likely land in the 20s.

The only downside is that it disrupts the tank, but realistically, the team’s talent level was already too high to finish in the bottom five. My guess is we’ll stealth tank by resting one or two players here and there, aim for a bottom-10 finish, take our lottery odds from there, and gear up for next season.

It won't disrupt the tank if the FO strategically sits out multiple starters...especially in March. Just like today's game against the Grizzlies only Barnes was playing, the rest were bench players.

I know some people are upset by this deal but it’s hard to land an Ingram level talent via free agency /draft and it’s also better than watching Brown expire for nothing

Why wouldn't they be? The FO has consistently done exactly what they want. Every year since the Giannis offseason, make shortsighted trades that bleed away the future. While the team gets worse and worse in the desperate goal of making the play-in every year.

They don't like the getting worse part, but they like everything that was done to get us here.

We added a 22 pt scorer for a 1st and a 2nd. He currently is 26th in league scoring.

What the hell do you expect Indy's first to turn into....and in how many years.

We ALL still want the Raps to be creative and tank the rest of the season. Yes we will beat some of those garbage teams below us, but adding BI, a top 10 pick, and a healthy IQ is a big jump in talent.
