Barnes is exactly what this team needs. He's got good size at the 3 and his silky smooth jump shot will come around. I've watched quite a few UNC games this year and although at times he tends to be passive it's only because the tar heels don't force him the ball as their offense is mainly run through the PG and bigs (Henson, Zeller).

His length allows him to rebound and defend, qualities that will only improve with experience and confidence. He's excellent on the fast break, finishing through contact both on layups and dunks. He can get to the rim, hit the offensive glass, has a nice step back jumper, and will become a deadly 3pt shooter. There should be no concern over his fg%, that jump shot will come around. Whats not to love about this kid?

If we get Barnes I would be more than happy. Fills a need, huge potential, him and DD on the wings would be a great building duo.

I know Barnes can hit the 3 which would help us alot, but can he take people off the dribble and create his own shot? Cause that's one thing DD has trouble with.

Nope. If he could, he'd be the consensus #1 pick. It's the only reason I don't see a superstar potential in him yet. He's young and is said to have good work ethic, so maybe he'll improve :dontknow:

I'm basing it on actually watching him play in the Nike Hoops Summit. He is a very good low post scorer, but he is not a shotblocker. I'd' compare him to Al Jefferson. Do you want Al Jefferson playing centre for the Raps? Would that improve our defense?

May I ask what you're basing your opinion of Kanter on?

I watched the same game you did. Kanter may not be a shotblocker, but he's a big that can be a physical presence and have the ability to alter shots as well as contest for boards. Combine him with a good help defender in Ed Davis, then we may have a very solid front-court that provides offense and defense in the future.

The boards thing I can see. I can't see him altering many shots when he will likely measure short for the postion without possessing much of a vertical. Kanter and Davis both generate their offence close to the basket. I'm not sure they're a good combination for floor spacing on offense.

I just think that so many people have this fixation on getting a centre and believe that drafting anyone with a C beside their name will cure what ails the team, rather than looking at the player's attributes. This is exacerbated in the case of someone like Kanter, who can't be critiqued based on seeing him play in college.

DD has been better with that department, he's doing some serious Kobeish moves right now can't u see

I wonder if HB will ever learn to take ppl off the dribble...what if his game is fixed like this now, like depending only on running through screens to get open, catch and shoot, scores on transition, and crashes the board. I don't mind if he excels in all of these especially with a consistent shooting range, like a bigger version of Ray Allen and... have a Ray Ray-ish like career

2 quick Qs:

- When is Irving coming back to play for the Blue Devils? For the Final 4?
- Does Kanter play for Kentucky or is he still in Europe?

I think the Raps will get one or the other.

Irving if we win the lottery, then
Sullinger and trade down, or
Kanter
T Jones

in that order.

no Barnes, P Jones, or WIlliams for me
probably J Valanciunas (sp) belongs in there somewhere but I don't know where. probably he is who we draft too.

There is no timeline for Irving's return. He may not be back for the tournament.

Kanter practices with Kentucky but he has been ruled permanently ineligible to play.

Shooting 39% won't get you compared to Ray Allen in my books.

I like Barnes' potential a lot more than DeRozan's. You could probably play them together for a couple of seasons and see if it works, but if there was a chance to trade DD for a significant upgrade at the 1 or 3 I'd prefer to go in that direction.

I thought HB was a pure SF?? Are you suggesting he can play the 2 or he's supposed to be better than Derozan?

He's definitely more of a 3, but I think he can play some 2 as well. DeRozan tested as one of the slowest guards in the history of the pre-draft combine. I'm sure Harrison will fair at least slightly better in that area. You add his length, better defensive instincts, plus increased range on his jumper... and I don't see why he can't play the position better than DeMar. If Barnes can develop a bit of a post game he should be able to go to work w/ his size advantage against opposing SGs.

Jimmer really is starting to remind me more and more of Mark Price.

Also Leonard is more than a SF version of Amir. He may be a poor man's version of Crash.

HB is going to be good but not next year. He doesn't look ready yet. Sullinger has a great BBall IQ but a top 5 pick I'm not sure. If he is a higher pick than Love who is an upgrade to him coming out of college, then something about this draft is not quite right. Perry Jones just wreaks of a possible bust. Depends on what's in his head.
