So much for players not being able to say no when Steve Nash texts you.

What is Trey Lyles doing?

At this point Andy Rautins and Kris Joseph would be upgrades.

He would be the best player on the team - I feel like that would probably help a little.

Really wish these guys would be able to really take pride in bringing Canada to new heights in basketball, the way the Europeans do. I really hope, we are all in next summer to get to 2018 worlds. The team could be excellent in 2018 and especially in 2020, should be able to compete for a medal in 2020.

You have other countries who's players are so dedicated to their national program and take so much pride in putting on that jersey and then you have these soft dipshits here. I once had a puckhead argue with me that canadian basketball players are soft and make up excuses not to play for team canada and i argued with him and tried to make up every excuse i could. Flat out unacceptable

Shout out to Cory. My love for him grows each day.

This announcement is so disappointing.

Wow that team is disappointing. I am sure the Zika didn't help players like Wiggins get motivated for this

Cory Joseph has had the longest nba season out of any Canadian (other than TT) and he's fully committed.

Wiggins and Stauskas need to man up and play. You want to train and get better this season? What do you think international play would do? It's not liek we're asking you to attend a camp for 2 weeks where you do puclib speeches and sign autographs. You'd be balling against other countries best.

It's really pathetic honestly, I have so much respect for guys like Manu, Parker, Diaw who are so old and so beat up after long seasons and long careers and still either going to play or trying their best and last second backing out.

Sorry I'm a little trashed at work (boss retiring so rare time wine and alcohol was served) but this really annoys me. These little youngins need to man up and rep the country.

Anybody can win a medal TBH. The whole tourney will be a **** because of Zika. It will be the most affected sport because of all the professional obligations. It's not like for other events like track where the Olympics is THE event.

It's particularly unfortunate because the Raptors' long playoff run and the Lebron-Curry drama seems to have primed Canadians as a whole to start taking basketball seriously. It would have been great to be in the Olympics and have a competitive, 2000-esque run there.

This program continues to be an embarrassment. Can't say I have much confidence in that changing.

If you're talking about the WBB most of the top women's players will be participating. USAB has already named their participants and it's practically the returning squad from the last 3 Olympics that won gold. Same goes for all the other European countries and Australia. Not sure why you're downplaying the SWNT success.

Irrespective of need, what is the most talented team Canada could have fielded?

PG: Joseph/Ennis/Pangos and or Hanlan
SG: Stauskas/Murray/Heslip
SF: Wiggins/Brooks
PF: Nicholson/Powell and/or Lyles
C: Olynyk/Thompson

Is this fairly accurate? Is there a spot for a role player like Ejim or some other type of specialist?

What a gut punch the announcement of this training camp roster is. I guess we could see the writing on the wall with some of these guys over the past few weeks, but still - extremely disappointing.

And as one poster mentioned, it makes that one-point upset loss last year hurt even more. I have a feeling that if players only had to commit to the Olympics, and not the added time of the qualifying tournament, we may have had great participation.

Let's hope that "preliminary" really means it and a couple of other guys come on board, but I'm not holding out much hope.

Cory and Ennis are going to have to go all Lillard and McCollum for this team to have a chance, but that's not really their games unfortunately.

Aside from Wiggins and Stauskas, I think the guy I'm most disappointed isn't on this list is Trey Lyles. What's his excuse? Summer league? Do the Jazz really think that playing a few games of garbage summer league ball is going to be better than playing against talented teams like France and Turkey in meaningful games?

As frumble pointed out, with the qualification rules changing, there's not at least a half-decent chance that we may never see this so-called "Golden generation" of Canadian b-ball ever play in the Olympics. I'm just sad right now.

If I didn't want to play in Rio for Olympics because of Zika, I would still go to qualifying tournament. Players are getting so soft these days. Honestly If I was love and got elbowed in head. I would fake being normal. I would not tell anyone I was dizzy. I guarantee other champions played through worse.
