So your assertion is that we won't be bad enough to have a bottom five record, but that we'll get something like the 8th pick and move up? That's a total crapshoot.
And our capspace isn't **** worth dick if we're a bad team without Kyle Lowry, and him and Norm can't be moved so easily like everyone here apparently thinks they can. Sacrificing our chemistry for some crappy picks that won't even be developed by the time Pascal and Fred's contracts are over is a ludicrous strategy. High picks do not fit our timeline, and we aren't likely to get one in the first place.
You are giving yourself so many charitable assumptions that honestly, it is just as reasonable for me to suggest that we should do my move for Vucevic and that a couple years from now we'll be able to trade OG (18 mil) or Fred (21 mil) and Nikola (22 mil) for someone on a supermax deal as anything you are saying.
Honestly, your opinion is basically garbage. You call having the 8th worst record a 'crapshoot' to move up. Look at the bloody flattened odds man. At the 10th spot you have a 1 in 3 chance of moving into the top 5!
That's way better than in previous years. That's why the Pelicans snagged Zion.
You want to bank on 35 yr old Lowry. That's never been the plan. We were always gearing up for Giannis. Sucks that we need to pivot, but we CAN throw money at a positive (long term) asset this summer. Let's wait and see who improves, no point in guessing right now.
So you think as a franchise we should bet our future on a 30% chance to move up in the draft...
But my opinion is garbage.
The problem with people like you is even if the Raptors did exactly what you wanted you wouldn't have anything to say and no leg to stand on when we don't move up in the draft, or we move down in the draft, or we don't get a high enough pick to begin with, or if we get a high pick but they end up being a bust. All you'll ever have to say is, 'they didn't lose enough'. Your only answer is losing. There's a word for people like that.
I'm not pro tank.
I'm of the opinion we will naturally be in that range, and that we are naturally at the end of Lowry's time with the team.
Your the one who can't recognize that we need more talent, and that we are going through a natural downswing.
It doesn't matter what I want. The standings will playout. We will end up around where we were always going to eventually end up, trading Lowry isn't going to impact 10 games in the standings. Maybe 4-5. We have competent PGs on this team. The draft will distribute talent as it always has. We have great management with a keen eye for talent. I'm happy for them to have a wider group to select from (that's all a higher draft pick does, there is no guarantee we don't pick a bust).
I'm just agreeing that things are naturally setting up for a quick rebuild, which is exactly the point the other poster made.
You can prefer to trade those picks for win now players, I think that's much, much less than 30% likely to help us. Obviously, that depends on the players available to trade.
Your one of those posters that thinks we can trade TD, Baynes and 2 x 1sts for Beal...
It's easy to make dumb strawman arguments.
