Yes. Normally you have 1 or 2 or 3 guys you build around. And around them you put other players that fulfill a role.
Roleplayers can even be allstars. Ofc a starter roleplayer has more value than an end of the bench guy.

I guess I notices coaches talking about players' roles more often when they discuss bench players than when they discuss starters.

This 7 game stretch has shown how important chemistry is on the defensive end, just impossible to be good there without having played together. Our individual defenders should not have us as a bottom 3 defensive team.
