They probably win the title with Lowry!
For a chance to win the title, I would have done it! We gave up JV and Derozan and look where it got us!

Re: Windhorst - "Sixers wouldn't give up Maxey"
The Great Darryl Morey turned Ben Simmons and a few first round picks into James Harden (and a possible $270 million extension).
All Hail Darryl Morey!
That being said I liked the trade for both teams when it was made -- but I am happy to be apparently clearly wrong. It could be a disaster for both at this point.

At least we don't have to worry about them going forward anymore.

I think they do win the championship. This will haunt Morey for the rest of his career. Cost the team a championship.

Looks like the Nets dodged a bullet. I wouldn’t want to be paying Harden 250 million for the next few years. It will easily be the worst contract in basketball.

Although Brooklyn gave up a whole bunch of futures to get Harden in the first place.
Winners — Houston, Cleveland (allen)
Losers - Philly and Brooklyn

Re: Windhorst - "Sixers wouldn't give up Maxey"
Morey's issue is that he thinks he is smarter than everyone else when he clearly is not.
He has to extend Harden to not look like an absolute idiot so he will screw Philly in that process for years to come.
Now he will give Harden a monster contract, lost depth, his first round pick and still has Tobias for 2 more years at 38 a year under contract.
2 years from now he will come off the books but instead Maxey will be on the max along with a declining Harden and Embiid who at that point might want out.

I don’t even know if we can anoint Houston as winners because they still have nothing to show for Harden. They squandered a pretty significant asset and only got late FRP’s for him. Brooklyn and Philadelphia though are the clear losers although Brooklyn at least somehow made up for it by trading him to Philly for picks, Curry and Simmons. Simmons may be a diva but he’s at least entering his prime and I’m sure he will eventually play for that team.
The pressure on Harden is immense right now. He needs to win a championship. That will be the only way this deal is a win for Philly. And a championship will help erase Morey’s blunder last year when he refused to give up Maxey.

Achiuwa has been a precious addition to this team.

In hindsight Achiuwa became more important to us than Maxey would have been. Plus we have Thad.
Maxey would have blossomed less behind FVV. (Assuming GTJ is still swapped for. Norm)

Re: Windhorst - "Sixers wouldn't give up Maxey"
Even though this clip is about Harden, he briefly talks about how good of a defender Precious is (and Pascal) which has caused Harden a lot of problems.
Then he also talks about how in the 4th quarter, Harden was basically just standing around on offense. Maxey was handling the ball. This reflects poorly on Maxey as it's a point guards job to get your best players involved. You don't let one of the best offensive players of all-time stand in the corner.

Rather have precious than Maxey tbh. Maxey seems prime to be overpaid on his 2nd contract.
Philly would be incredible with Lowry. Idiots for turning that down

Lowry wouldn't have let them lose to Atlanta that's for sure.

Maxey has a couple things we lack. The ability to create and finish a one man fast break, to flat outrun people with the ball. And the ability, combined with his three point shooting, to come out of the corner vs a closeout and finish at the rim. He's better at the latter than anyone we have, even at his size. We could use his kind of fast dynamic offense.
He would have been an elite sparkplug scorer off the bench for us at the least.
Not comparing to Precious, not talking about his D, just what he could do.
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

Yeah and part of that is Kyle would have made Simmons more effective, allowed him to maximize his strengths.
Guaranteed title, well Bucks and Suns would have had something to say, but Sixers would've had a real chance. And we would have been treated to a Giannis- Embiid duel in the ECF

Harden looks unmotivated now. Imagine what he’ll be like after he signs that contract?

The problem is a lot of those things aren't that important and some of those things are a reflection of who he is playing with. Maxey would be nowhere near as effective on this team. He's benefitted greatly from playing with Embiid and Harden. As already mentioned in this thread, his efficiency since Harden came to the team has skyrocketed.
I agree that he could be a nice little scorer for us off the bench but didn't you say that Maxey wasn't a dime a dozen player? Now all you think of him as is a spark plug off the bench? And remember, if Maxey is here than Precious isn't.

It's a hell of a fork in the road for them. Give up Maxey and Simmons probably works out for them fairly well but they lose to the Bucks or Suns with Embiid not ready to be a crunch time closer. Simmons never holds out, probably doesn't get vaxxed still (though can't rule it out) and that's all I got. Would you rather have Lowry and a less horribly failed in the playoffs Ben Simmons making 60M a year or Harden and Maxey making what about 55-60M a year for the next few? Huge defensive downgrade but better spacing and Maxey might have more pure upside than Simmons at this point.
Where's the D?
