Re: 2024 NBA DRAFT THREAD 3
Edey seems pretty composed, but his IQ is average at best. His reads are mediocre in the post. Only finds open men on his side of the court for threes. That's still ok though. I still think he's going to be a pretty good pro and would still take him with the Indy pick. And of course he can improve.

But ya, the Purdue guards getting absolutely suffocated by the NBA guard and wing talent on UConn is all Clingan.
If they could have competently run a pick and role, get any kind of seperation, have any kind of burst, or get the ball to the 7' 4" guy sitting in the mid post on a slip, this woulda been different. It was like watching a team of G-leaguers try and create against a team of OGs. Brutal to watch.
You're aware that 17 points of the 37 came in the final 10 minutes of the game when it was already a blowout, right?
Hurley's entire strategy was to let Edey get his the entire game and not let any of the Purdue players get going. That was especially the case in the final 10 minutes when Hurley was effectively daring Purdue to throw it in to him and take 2s rather than 3s (because he knew they couldn't be caught that way given the big lead). He even started putting Karaban on him too in the last 5 minutes to further dare them and Edey got about 10 points that way.
i honestly don't think people even watched the game last night
They watched the game. Edey finished with one of the top 5 scoring games in NCAA finals history. He scored a lot at the end, and scored a lot at the beginning. A couple of whistles the other way and Clingan is in early foul trouble and UConn is in big trouble. The strategy paid off because the refs didn't want to tilt it and Hurley was doing an excellent job of harassing the refs on every single call against his very physical team.

Edey vs Ivisic with the Pacers pick?
I would rather gamble that 5 years down the line, Ivisic might be more valuable than Edey. Ivisic has a lower floor but a higher ceiling.
Maybe with Calipari moving on, does Ivisic transfer there or also declare for the draft like Bronny. I would definitely use #31 on Ivisic.

I will easily take Ivisic over Edey, as I see Ivisic as a more modern big. Even if Big Z can be a poor man's version of K Porzingis, that is worth a pick especially in this year's draft. I am a firm believer that our current core needs a modern big who can protect the rim and offer a bit of shooting; a bigger more athletic Kelly O. Definitely take Big Z at 31 if he is there, but I am also okay with him at the Pacers pick if there is a feeling he will be drafted in the first round.

There seem to be some mixups in these measurements. Jakucionis is not 260lbs.

I don't see Ivisic being mocked to go in the first - the couple of places I've seen him pop up have him going mid-2nd round in the 2025 draft.

I've become dangerously focused on Collier with the Pacers pick.

Until garbage time (when, again, they were literally fine just giving him dunks against 6'6 guys given the time and score), he had about 27 points on about 50% shooting. A fine game, but nothing special at all by his standards.
One flew east, one flew west, one flew over the cuckoo’s nest.

Love your guys at 17, that’s exactly who I have.
For pick 31, like your first two as well. Would add hunter sailis in there as well. Really like him at that spot.
Not a fan of the Kentucky guards at all however at 6. 6 is tough, because I think the group you posted at 17 is better than the group you posted at 6. I don’t think Shepard or dillingham have any business being a top 10 draft pick in any draft, but it is hard for me to get stoked about many of the folks before or after them as well. Hopefully we just win the lotto and get sarr lol.

It's a pretty terrible top 10 overall. You're lucky to get a starter, let alone a star. I think there's a good chance the best player from this draft is taken in the teens or even further down.

I hate to be overly reactive to the tournament, but I really like the idea of Sears here. We really need a bench PG, and I feel like he could contribute next season as a back-up.

Per 40, steals+blocks, draft year:
Marcus Smart: 4.2
Jalen Suggs: 3.1
Stephon Castle: 2.0
Castle is a solid enough defender, but the lack of turnover creation is pretty big red flag when trying to translate his defensive impact at the nba level.
I just see a guy whose solid in a lot of places, but there's really nothing special about his game. I know this is weak draft at the top, but I can't wrap my head around taking him with a top pick.

Agreed. I guess at 6, I’d go holland as first choice, and then swing for the fences for Cody Williams next. Williams could very well bust, but there is some b
More potential there. Holland would be ideal due to defence and athletecism along with shooting and creation potential. I’d probably take holland at 3 or 4 in this draft due to lack of options. Not sure if I’d rather go Clingan or holland at 3. Basically, if you can teach holland to shoot, you’ve got a really good player. People did it last year with the Thomson brothers who were worse shooters.

Fixed.
Masai wouldn't draft him at #27 in 2016, I don't think he'll do it at #1 in 2024.

Pick 6 isn't likely pick 6 tho. It's more likely to be a 1-4 pick right?
You should be considering those 3 against the Sarr, Topic and Risacher's of the draft.
Not saying they still wouldn't be your pick, just that it makes more sense to state who at the top you like, without the 6 qualifier.
