There is only one great center in the NBA. Why do you think the Spurs were trying to trade up for Val? They know what they're doing.

if anything, i think this pick means Bargnani is a goner. Val is 19 and not ready- in fact might not even play this season. Bargs is 26 and older than most everyone else on the roster.

That's a partnership that ain't gonna work.

or deal Ed/Amir. Casey talked about getting a C in FA. BC has always wanted Bargnani beside a C.

More like dealing Davis or Amir. Jonas is here to protect Andrea.

Good pick imo, we needed a more traditional center, someone with good potential and we got him. Prerferred Val over BB, in this draft, drafting potential over the sure thing was the way to go.

Anyway, hope Val can come over and we can have a solid rotation of Bargs/Val/Davis/Johnson at the 4 and 5.

If he was from New York
no one would be questioning this pick. BC showed his balls and made the best pick at the position we were at. Don't let his English or past draft picks taint this selection.

If he was from NY, we'd have more experience seeing his game against known competition in the NCAA. So it's not the same.

Yeah, then maybe he goes 2nd instead of 5th. The fact remains that we don't know what he will turn out to be, but a lot of professionals seem to feel that he was the BPA (2 nights ago Blatt was saying that Val was going to be a special player in this league at C).

It's just silly to rush to judgement. C is a terribly difficult position to fill and by all accounts we got a big with length, hustle, a fine shot (as noted by his FT%)) and some defensive awareness. Not bad for the 5th pick in a poo-poo draft.

Idiots. Give the guy a fair shot before you crucify him.

Val's fine, I've warmed up to it. He's clearly not Bargnani and if we develop him to his potential, he should give us a good, high-energy C going forward. He's not without his faults, but you could do a lot worse at five in this draft.

We still desperately need to improve our shooting though, and find a real 3. Hopefully either JJ improves, we sign one in FA, or we draft one of the great prospects in next years draft.

Mark my words Brandon Knight will be one of the three best players out of this draft, personally I like him more than Irving.

based on the scouting reports, wasn't it: Val (high upside) and Knight (role player)?

100% -- Casey would love a Val/Davis frontcourt. They are the future.

It will hurt the next couple of years when the guards are making a mark in the NBA, while we're waiting for a project to come around.
