Waiters has a thick torso, which is usually an indicator strength. His numbers are similar to football RB's.

A prospect accept the "promise deal" to a)hedge his floor b)if he was gareenteed playing play or based on the present roster has a fair chance at suitable playing time.

If Waiters range was 6-12, I would think that Waiters crew would most likely be accepting promises from 8-10. 6-7 team wont see the benefit of promising.

Pros to the prospect = Lock a spot, no more workouts to a) get injued in b) have a disappointing day that drops your stock and potentially costing you a fair bit of funds

Pros to the team = deters other teams ahead of you from getting sufficient (more) information on the prospect, thus they make look at other prospects.

^what he said. It's easy enough to know why Waiters is willing to go with a guarantee even if you believe it's at the tail end of where he's likely to go; security is pretty darn great. He's also not completely shutting that door, but creating an acceptable floor for the draft should be a player and agent's number 1 priority IMO.

What gets underplayed in these discussion, I think, is why the team does it. I agree it makes very little sense for a team at 6-8 to guarantee him if that's his best case draft slot, 'cause they get nothing out of it, but PHO can guarantee and get a guy that they believe if he continued to workout would never fall to their spot. That's the big get for a guarantee, helping push a guy down the board that you believe has some helium in his stock. It does cost them something as they can't get to into deals that would move the pick, and if your guy goes off the board before you anyway, then your pick options might be far less than ideal, presumably another reason to guarantee is you're not a big fan of what your potential other options will be.

Bargnani has been the apple of Colangelo's eye since he drafted him (#1 overall at that) and both Casey and BC acknowledged that they're not really high on the idea of going into next season with 3 or more rookies.....

So why in the world would you think that trade would happen?

Truly believe he would've fallen to suns or out of lottery if cavs didn't pick him.

Well BC said Ross was #8 on our draft board so obviously he had Waiters above Ross
