Haha.
Yeah, there's more than a few Chad Fords around here who will be claiming that they wanted us to draft X player who pans out in a few years, but was picked after Poeltl. It's always that way...

Are people still crying about skal and davis? Almost every team in the league passed on those dudes

Re: Raptors Select Paskal Siakam 27th
This happens every year and people seem to never learn. Guys who have no business being in the NBA get hyped to no end and then teams rightfully pass on them to take the talent with higher upside. Not saying Davis and Skal can't be good but if everyone was passing on them there must have been serious red flags. Reminds me of when the Nets took the some of the final two kids still on the floor in 2006. Marcus Williams and Josh Boone. TV analysts were praising the Nets for taking these great prospects that slipped all the way to the 20s. They turned out to be complete scrubs (like a lot of that draft). Again, not saying the situation is the same, but mock drafts do this every year and Raps fans continue to drink the Kool-aid. "I can't believe we passed on Chris Taft you guys!!! Our FO is so stupid!"

Re: Raptors Select Paskal Siakam 27th
Siakam has some Amir Johnson to him. Both were skinny coming into the league, but never shied away from contact. Both guys get after it on the defensive end and on the glass. Both guys have ugly-looking offensive games, but somehow make it work with a soft touch around the rim (hard to find). Jumper a work in progress but shows promise.
I don't see the Bismack comparison. I think it's a bit racist TBH b/c of their African roots, but anyhow. Siakam has much softer hands and can shoot FT's. Bismack is a more explosive athlete and finishes stronger. Siakam is mobile/fluid, but does not have the athleticism of a Biz/DAJ/Drummond/Whiteside.

Reminds me a bit of Biyombo. He even comes from Africa (Cameroon to be exact) and went to God's Academy.
I'd reach for him at 27. If we can't re-sign Bismack, but can turn this guy into a similar type of player....money.

Now I just hope he can translate his game to the NBA well enough to help the Raps.
From what I see from him, I'd put his ceiling at Bismack Biyombo and floor at Pape Sow. High motor guys capable of grabbing rebounds, and can provide energy and hustle when team needs a bit of a lift. Bismack was able to do it, Pape Sow wasn't.
Measurements are pretty similar for the three (Siakam and Pape and Bismack)
- Siakam
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Pascal-Siakam-87577/
- Pape
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Pape-Sow-4438/
- Bismack - wingpspan on Biz was much, much better than the other two
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Bismack-Biyombo-5902/
Even college stats were a bit similar between Siakam and Pape, with Siakam having better numbers than Pape, and both scoring much better than Bismack.
- Pape Sow scoring numbers
http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/pape-sow-1.html
And here's a scouting-ish report I found on Pape from his Cal State days. From what they describe, he sounded a bit like what Siakam was showing in the youtube video I posted.
http://www.scout.com/college/cal-state-fullerton/story/72985-pre-season-prognosis
The Lakers have Shaq and Kobe and the Titans have Pape and Ralphy (hmm, best to leave this analogy for another time), but make no mistake, as with Shaq, Pape Sow is the franchise, well, at least for one more year. Some had hoped he would be back for his senior year but when a guy can put on over 50 pounds of muscle in less than two years and with the skills he possesses, this tends to have NBA scouts slobbering all over themselves.
(Side note: The scouts will be viewing Pape early and often as well as late and if they sense any amount of improvement, he will be a first rounder. Scouts from Portland and Dallas have already been seen at practices and he’s been injured for most of them.)
How much will Pape improve over last year? It could be a tough call because it’s not like you can put on all that weight without an adjustment period. Last year was a prime example as it took him at least 10 games to get his timing down and his shots started to fall. His numbers improved dramatically as the season progressed and he became more comfortable with himself and D1 ball.
This should not to be the case this year as he is spending more time working on his shooting. The Titans have a new-fangled contraption which forces you to not only get a good arch on your shot but also spits the ball back to you for maximum productivity. He has been diligently working with this machine during the injury and it looks to be paying dividends.
Should be interesting.

Ehh...not really racist when you just look at the kind of energy and stamina in his play. He looks like he can be continuously on the move, which could bode well for his rebounding. But Siakam seems like he can be a better passer and scorer. Bismack will be a better rebounder than Siakam, just based off wingspan alone (like 4 inches difference).
75% the D of Bismack with better scoring and probably a bit less rebounding would be how i'd like the Raps to take his development, since that's the kind of player that could thrive on this team, and seems like the kind of potential that can be developed in him.

Aka the Cameroonian Serge Ibaka.
Great to have him on board and in our development system.

Credit to Masai, this guy wasn't on my radar at all. No problem with this selection.

It's not racist because Africa is not a race.

I trust Masai here. If this kid can be anything like Biz, it's a great pick this late into the draft.
