The dunk contest is a meaningless event but cmon, how they gonna rob Gordon twice now? He should’ve won for that 360 dunk off the backboard alone. And Wade as a judge when there’s a Heat player participating? What a farce.

Enjoyed the three point contest and the dunk contest. Not sure why they need to feature TikTok so much this all star weekend though. :noway:

Probably a trial for a new 3 point line in the league?

Was telling when Rip Hamilton had trouble shooting from there. Crazy how talented the players are now.

I don't think it was a trial, I think Mountain Dew approached the NBA with a fat check and said how can we further entrench our branding into the event, and that was a pretty simple solution.

IMO doing away with the rounds system would be a good way to improve the overall quality of the dunk contest. Currently the round system requires gamesmanship because you want to save your best dunks for if you make the finals. So in theory 2 participants will not attempt their best dunk as they are saving it for the finals but then don't make the finals.

Therefore it seems to me the system should be changed to all 4 participants getting 4 dunks, and then awarding the prize to the dunker with the highest score. All dunks would receive equal weighting, and all participants could attempt their best dunks because they'd have no reason to save them. Misses would also likely be minimized because dunkers would need to improvise less as they could plan their sequence of all 4 dunks. Dunkers also wouldn't feel as much pressure to do something they never rehearsed just to try and pull off a showstopper to make the finals if they fell behind after the first dunk. They'd have more time to make up the variance and therefore wouldn't need to try something they'd never practiced before leading to misses, which kill the entertainment factor of the contest to a degree, IMO.

1) Ban Dwayne Wade

2) Do not let Giannis select players ever again

3) The additional money ball is so unecessary, the scores seemed so inflated

I've been wanting this since DeMar got robbed in favor of Blake Griffin's commercial spot. Apparently he had even better dunks in store planned.

Aaron Gordon is the best dunk contest performer of all time. The sheer grace and uniqueness of his dunks are just a level above anyone else out there. Some contestants will blow the roof off in one year, but then show they're a one trick pony when they enter again and underwhelm. Gordon showed in two contests how creative he can get. And twice he got robbed.

Lost some respect for D-Wade tonight after seeing the robbery. Always was a huge fan. Now meh.

Agreed. Jones Jr. has two moves in his bag, he's either windmilling or going through the legs. Those are both certainly excellent dunks but I can't recall ever seeing some of AG's dunks in the contest before.

On the topic of Griffin's commercial, I've always been in favour of banning props from the contest. Props haven't been a huge issue in the last few years so not as pressing as before, but 4-5 years ago the props were really over-runing the contest. Maybe I'm too much of a curmudgeon shouting from my porch but I miss the days of Nique and MJ, or even Vince where guys just did damn good dunks and didn't need some stupid storyline to mask the fact the dunk itself wasn't great.

The dunk competition was rigged. They planned it to go into OT. It was such a setup. Even how they planned to have the last round.

Anthony couldn't even stand to say the one in Toronto was the greatest. I'm not even bias but it really was. The dunks that came out of OT were spectacular.

The judges today just wanted to go home. Get real judges. The black panther didn't even want to be there

Whole thing was cringe worthy, not funny with drunk Tiffany Haddish as a lead.

You can tell it's a clown show when you have 3 out of the 5 judges who aren't legit dunkers. Don't get me wrong I like Candace, but she can barely dunk and the other 2 have probably never dunked in their life. Also add to that the 4th judge being a biased former teammate and you have the **** that took place last night...
Too bad, cause I thought it was one of the best dunk contests ever.

That one handed dunk by AG was tight tight tight.

NBA/TNT did a good job scaring away future NBA dunk competitors.

Much like the rising stars game, it's going to be for guys who'll remain relevant for another year or two until they're out of the league.

f*** Wade man. What a fool...
That was absolutely pathetic.
He was being biased towards all the Heat players in every competition all night long.
What he did at the end to rob AG shouldn't come as a surprise at all.
I love Wade as a basketball player, but I hope his career as a broadcaster flops.
