Vampirate wrote:What isn't talked about and very hidden is that Barnes had an outlier year as a rookie. He shot over 50% from 3-10 feet on the bulk of his shots.

I'm wondering if that was a fluke (not so much him being very good at it, but actually shooting 50% there)

I'm looking at basketball reference and i'm legitimately not finding a single rookie that's done that.

Not even Kawhi who had a lesser role and took half the amount of shots managed to accomplish that as a rookie.

I'm legit struggling to find a rookie who's done that in any capacity tbh. There's probably or has to be a couple that's done that before.

https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/d/duncati01/shooting/1998

I went through 1996-2002 of guys I thought might and so far only Duncan.

Al Jefferson was close at 49.3% in 2004.
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jeffeal01/shooting/2005

ED DAVIS!!!! 52.1% in 2010
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/d/davised01/shooting/2011

Montrezl Harrell 50% in 2015
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/harremo01.html

Whoa Deandre Ayton at 55.6% in 2018!! Wow
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/a/aytonde01/shooting/2019

Brandon Clarke 53.3% in 2019!
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/clarkbr01/shooting/2020

Toppin and Stewart in 2020!

Most of players don't take those distance shots, way more attempts closer as bigs.

https://ak-static.cms.nba.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/46/2021/06/2020-21-NBA-Rookie-of-the-Year-Voter-Selections.pdf

check out list of last year voters and how they voted for ROY
100 voters, majority of the voters are the same, some changes every year.

its not just 1st/2nd/3rd place, its 5points for 1st, 3pts for 2nd, and 1 points for 3rd.

so far seeminly all have barnes 1 or 2, its going to be an easy win for barnes by the looks of it.

Do you have a source on Pelton?
Rose hasn't confirmed that he voted for Cade.
Bontemps said Mobley was his front runner on March 24th, no update since. Waiting for him to confirm as well.

Lowe was undecided at the time and he didn’t confirm which way he was leading.

Fun fact.

The leading total minutes leader of the #5 seed in the Eastern Conference is none other than Scottie Barnes at 2617 minutes.

Not bad for a guy who was seen as a reach over Suggs.

Pelton didn't confirm it on the Pod. He said he's leaning Mobley due to adjusted plus/minus off even tho Cavs are better when he's on the bench lol blah blah, but he had not decided. He also said my spicy take was Barnes over Mobley, but now I'm sure anymore.

Lowe said Mobley D best quality of all rookies, but Barnes is close and he played 250 mins more. Now 250 mins isn't a lot, but if it's close, it can be the deciding factor. I don't know where I'm going.

Also, Pelton's logic makes 0 sense lol smh

It's possible the guys revealing their ballots are the generally more well informed portion of the media while the bulk of the votes that we won't see are just going to vote with the season long narrative that it's Mobley's award to lose.
