I know that people all preach BPA, but when BPA comes people sweat on fit. Yes, Toronto is guard heavy at the moment, but I think the benefit of Ja'Kobe Walter is that he is a rare pick in this range.

Played at top five prep school Link Academy
***** star recruit
McDonalds All-American
Nike Hoop Summit
Jordan Brand Classic
Played at Baylor one of the best/toughest college programs

At roughly 6'6 / 6'10 wingspan 195 lbs with scoring that flirted with 40% from three for the first 10-15 games there is a lot to like.

He is not afraid of contact despite his frame, and he has some wiggle to his game but will need refinement.

His floor is a rotation caliber wing, but honestly, as he gets stronger and trains in the NBA, we might have the next Shai Gilgeous Alexander. He just strikes me as a hooper who understands the game and wants to compete in every way.

I like the pick. If he develops right, I think he can be Norm for us but with more dynamic on ball creation.

Hope he is ready to work hard and put in time in the G League.

What's the best hope at a proper wing? dick growing a few inches(haha) ?

RB/GT/Dick/Walter/OA.. all 2 guards

I like what Bobby said in his presser when asked about the glut of guards: we don't have enough talent to be worrying about filling out the roster and need to take the best talent we can get and let them fight for it and prove themselves. I would think those that were afraid the FO is going to rush a rebuild were very happy to hear him say that.

There is a lot of forwards and wings in next year's draft. We'll get one on the roster eventually.

I don't disagree but at that point in the draft bpa is hardly a written in stone thing to determine

I think even Bobby said he was their BPA. Regardless of ranking, I just sense some star upside and a strong two-way floor with Walter. No position other than Scottie Barnes is set on this roster beyond that so we need to take smart swings on guys like Walter.

He decidedly does NOT finish through contact. He was horrible in finishing at the rim.

To be clear finishing at the rim and finishing through contact are different. Sure he has to improve but far too many players avoid contact completely while Walter will look to draw fouls AND score. Something a Trent, for example, never does.

I have no real big issues with Walter so im cool with the pick, I personally woulda went Tyson tho I think he's more advanced offensively but maybe they value the age and defense more

If he's 6'4" he is tiny for a wing, but has good size as a combo guard. I honestly didn't look into Walter because a.) he was always mocked out of our range
b.) he seemed like an undersized two guard, which is like last on my want list

That said Masai and co are good drafters. He was a top high school recruit that was balling out to start the year ( and cooled down hard for like a month). Does he have some combo guard playmaking/handles? That would make this a much better fitting pick (kinda like McCain).

6'5 in shoes, 6'10 wingspan with room to add weight. Those are good measurements for a SG.

like Dick, got lucky a player dropped to us again!
he also has a very interesting personality (similar to Rookie year Scottie) so can't wait to see what these 3 (JW/GD/SB) will be up to

We need shot creation and we got it. It would be good to develop his creation skills in the Gleague and give him a high usage. This guy was a mocked lottery pick and top 5 prospect before the season started. We got very lucky. I was slightly worried we would take an older prospect.

I've seen a few quotes from scouts that have specifically said "he can't finish through contact" and 'physicality throws him off'.

Also...with all the implications suggested regarding Trent. Don't get it twisted....if he becomes AS GOOD as trent then this would be a HUGELY successful draft pick. Getting a guy as good as Trent at #19 in this draft wouldn't be a home run....but it would be a double or a triple.

He had missi up until 2 days ago. No one thought he’d really slide to 19

It was Walter, Missi and then back Walter today

The Ringer also had Walter a while back

But in the ESPN platform I think the odds of Walter being available at 19 was like 3%.

Majority mocks didnt have him no one thought he was dropping that far

Didn’t bother looking into this draft class but it must really suck if this is a guy that was mocked in the lotto

Inefficient, didn’t playmake for others, average physical tools, no obvious outlier skill.

Can’t even say it was a bad pick, just not that interesting.

GT has no future with the team

RB can also play the 3

We don't know what Dick's ceiling is. Might be a role player

OA and other reaches have no future in the NBA

Just take the best player and things will sort out on their own.
