I dont see how we dont take barnes if Irving PJ or TJ is off the board. He fills a hole that we have, and gives us hope with his upside & potential. It'd be a gamble to take another big this yr to add with this group even if hes the bpa. One will eventually have to get traded to fill a hole somewhere else anyway.

I always wish for a scenario where we draft Irving, trade Bargnani for another top 5 pick, thus taking Sullinger. It's not like Bargnani can play centre for us, I'd rather have Sully and Ed on the floor lol.

I hope we pick donatas, he'd help spread the floor even more. Having 2 7 footers stand at the 3 point line is unheard of and will change how the game is played.

He does, I'd rather he go that route actually, but I think for the most part ppl project him as a pf. at 6'10 280 I think Ed could play C if his game stayed the same.

If we play a lineup like that I think Derozan will average 10 rebound for us.

I agree, aside from Kyrie Irving. I'm a believer in Barnes not because he was a big time prospect prior to entering college but his fluidity, good athleticism, and overall fundamentals. I could see him becoming more of an aggressive Allan Houston.

I am not a big fan of John Henson. He basically reminds me of Tyrus Thomas (little less offensive game, little taller, but same style)

stop making your own rankings at this time.
its beyond ridiculous.
for now, listen to people who know what they're talking about.

+1
unless you have something specific to say about a guy's game that you've actually seen play, I don't care that you want the Raps to draft a guy.

Easy there big guy, there's quite a few people on this board that can come to their own conclusions about prospects and come to the right conclusion. Waiting for the tourney to make assessments on players is how a guy like Joe Alexander gets drafted 8th.
Best thing to do is follow players throughout the year and adjust your board as new information becomes available. That's the right way to scout players.

the thing is, everyone on heres list is going to be almost completely based off of other mocks with minor changes.
If you never saw any rankings or mocks and were asked, rank in your opinion the top 30 prospects declaring for the draft, your answers would be entirely different.

Not really, I'll tell you right now that myself and quite a few others were hyping Kyrie Irving way back in the summer when everyone was talking about Barnes. Irving was ranked #9 by DX at that point and nobody was talking about him the way they are now.
If you're really interested in scouting there's a lot of ways to go about it. You can find HS footage, not just highlights. You can obviously lean on sites like DX and you can do some research on the player. Personally, I'm not that into scouting outside of guys that I'm really interested in like Irving so I found quite a bit of footage on him.
And yes, ranking players isn't an exact science, NOBODY gets it right 100% of the time, not Chad Ford, not Jon Givony and not even NBA scouts.
Personally, I like hearing other people's opinions on prospects because you get a bunch of different perspectives. For eg. I'm still pretty high on Barnes but I've enjoyed reading all the critiques of his game. People have given me a different perspective so now instead of having him at #2 on my board he's now at #4.
Again, it's ok to change your mind as more information becomes available. Most of the time I have guys listed quite a bit differently than what happens in the actual draft. When I go back sometimes I find my assessment was better than some NBA teams and at other times the NBA team was right and I was completely wrong.

Re: Official Raptors 2011 NBA Draft Thread, Part 2
i wasnt saying anything to pick on you or the other posters, but many people on here will say things along the lines of
OK HERE IS MY LIST
player x
player y
player z
i've found that these are usually just people mixing their opinion of different mocks on other sites, but adding their personal conjectures on players they like/dont like, while keeping the same relative framework. It's good to scout prospects now, but to rank them I don't think makes a lot of sense (for people who arent extremely into it and dont know all of the players).
I can tell you that I dont watch euroleague and aside from kanter, I have never seen the other guys play. No matter what i've read, I cannot rank/judge these guys and compare them to others.
As I follow Arizona basketball moreso than I follow the raptors, im very aware and involved (i involve myself, not that im actually a part of it) on following the top recruits in highschool and as a result, get to know about a lot of these guys before the college game transforms them.
Another thing is, rivals/espn/scout ranking services are beyond terrible, and should not be used as a barometer at all outside of the top 10. The guys making the rankings hardly watch anything, are extremely bias and really out of their element. There are much better sources available.
