not really. They sign Dragic for the max and thats it, they are done in free agency

2015-2016 Outlook:

Very roughly I project us at 50 million for next summer. That includes

- Demar
- Lowry
- Patterson
- Val
- Ross
- Bebe
- J.Johnson
- Vasquez
- Bruno
- 2015 1st RD Pick

If you look at the above projections that would leave us with 15.8 million in cap space.

I wonder what types of contacts Amir and Lou would command on the open market.

Taking a guess, but for Lou 3 years 18 million and Amir 24 for 4 years.

Should leave us 3-4 million to sign a backup center in free agency.

Re: Raptors Cap Situation - 2015 Outlook With Cap Projections (Update: April 21st)

Post#363 » by Rapsobsessed7 » Tue Apr 21, 2015 5:47 am

Slight update as we now know where we are picking (#20) and new cap projections (slight increase from previous projections)

Sources told ESPN.com that based on current projections, league officials expect the salary cap to increase from its current $63.1 million figure to $67.1 million next season, $89 million in 2016-17 and $108 million in 2017-18. The jumps represent massive increases triggered largely by the influx of television money that will begin pouring in after the 2015-16 season, when the NBA's new nine-year, $24 billion TV deal kicks in.

So you'd essentially like to have the same team back next season? Do you like watching first round sweeps? If this is what you are going to give us MU, you better at least change the coach.

My vote goes to a teardown/rebuild. If you can trade DD for a top 5 pick and Kyle for a top 10 pick, I say do it. Let Amir and Lou chase their dreams somewhere else, and offer the MAX to Middleton or Harris. THen we could have a ton of 22-24 yr olds

You win in this league with stars.

Giving max contracts to Tier-4 players like Middleton and Harris is exactly the type of move that leads to treadmill status.

Thanks for the update. Didn't even know we got the Knicks' 2017 2nd rounder. The gift that keeps on giving.

While Harris isn't currently a star, the advanced stats favor him highly. As a matter of fact, they even suggest that he has untapped star potential (http://www.basketballanalyticsbook.com/). He's still only 22 years old and I would be happy to pay him $15M per, as the current max won't even be close to the real max in about 2 years.

As for an actual star, for us, they'll either come in the draft or trade. I'm sure I don't need to tell you how unlikely it is to pick up a star at #20 and as it stands right now, there aren't any stars to be had via trade. So I suggest we take our chances with Harris. At worst, he's a young, quality starting SF. At best, he blossoms into an all-star. Either way, we still win.

Trade Vasquez + Bebe (+#20) for Faried + Nelson
Keep Lowry for deal him for Holiday if he proves healthy
MLE to Brandan Wright, LLE to Marcus Thornton
Vets minimum to C.J Watson, Prince/Granger & Emeka Okafor

Holiday/Nelson/Watson
DeRozan/Thornton/Ross
Harris/Johnson/Prince
Faried/Patterson/Okafor
Val/Wright/Okafor

So you took my reply from November 2014 and you used that to reference your point of first round sweeps? I'm sure you had the same view when this was discussed in November and that's why it took you 8 months to reply to me lol :banghead:

That is a nice number! Do we bring back Amir?? 4 for 24 does not sound appealing... Too long may be 2 years left in ankles... I wish it wasn't so...

Love the cap space. Hope Masia throws the max at aldridge and Marc even if the chances of getting em are low.

I suspect they will bring back Lou Williams now. We have enough cap space to keep him and still make a big money pitch to a free agent forward like Paul Millsap, Tobias Harris or DeMarre Carroll.

Don't really want Gibson. He's a short term solutions at best.

Doesn't anyone know if we get the MLE this year?

If Amir can come back at the vets minimum, I'd love to have him. Anything more than that and we just can't afford to do it. With those ankles, he can't start for us anymore and seeing as we already have a backup PF on a good deal, it doesn't make sense to pay Amir big dollars.

We still need to bring in a starting SF, PF and to round out the bench and only $24M to work with
