Re: The Sun: BC option will be picked up
i guess its not that bad, at least its his last year... on the other hand, what should a new gm do, to rebuild or retool?? a complete rebuild would be cleaning up the house... we might let expire Bargs and Gay together and tank badly.. by that time Jonas will be solid, and if DeMar does not improve his D, he might be traded as well...

Either it is one of the Van Gundys or keep Casey.
I hope you realize that Brian Shaw has been a great developmental coach for the Pacers. Lance Stephenson recently accredited Shaw for helping him increase his scoring averages by almost 400%. You've also got George coming off a year where he won MIP. With our young core we would be better suited with someone who is interested in developing our young players and not someone who is going to blame/bench them for what essentially is the lack of better make up of our team.
That sounds like another great assistant coach right there.
Find me the next defensive guru instead(Thibs), thanks.
About Lance,
Yes it has been an incredible improvement from 2 ppg to 8 ppg in 30 minutes.

sad day for raptors basketball. How many excuses does BC have? Signing scrubs to big contracts should have been the deal breaker. Just F*** . I just want some progress with this team. BC isn't the answer.

He plays the Tony Allen type role 3+D on a team that has scorers in George, West, Hibbert, and Hill.
I thought we had the next "defensive guru" who won a championship with Dallas. Oh yeah, he also had Tyson Chandler, Shawn Marion, DeShawn Stevenson, etc playing exceptional defense while Dirk was playing at an all-time great level and Jason Kidd was playing like he was 23 years old. Yah okay there bud. With the make up of our team I would give Shaw a chance. You are acting like SVG is ready to come to Toronto because last time i checked he's been to the NBA finals at least twice and the Raps are NO WHERE close.
Ignorance is bliss I guess...

I won't believe it till it's official. But if it happens, I do believe I'll follow less Raps ball next season. Especially an option year, which is just one waste of a season.

Screech Powers has no sources, neither does any of the canadian writers. Can't even say Frank is right on this one.

I would argue that, but its irrelevant, id like someone other than Zicarelli to be pushing this, it is huge news in regards to the Raptors. Im not saying its not true, but in regards to all Raptors news, its rarely one Raptors writer breaking a story, more specifically Zicarelli whos been on and off their beat, this season.
I think Rhett and I had a conversation asking when Zicarelli started writing Raptors again, a few weeks/months ago.
Edit: I drank all night, have a hangover, going the MLSquare tonight, and somehow among all the fun this came to ruin my day. C'est la vie dans Raptorsland.

This franchise is ran by a bunch of morons. At this point i think BC has MLSE in his palms, its impossible for him to get fired.

Re: The Sun: BC option will be picked up
first of all I am not sure what you mean by
As I am just stating my preference being the Van Gundys (like most on this forum)
and For Your Information , SVG has been to the NBA Finals once as a Head Coach.
If you rather go for another inexperienced coach with our current roster who seems to be an "offensive" coach more than defensive one then all power to you.
That is what he was advertised to be.
During the exit interviews, when I heard him say " I focused too much on offense during training camp" then I knew...we were duped.
Save that statement for another year and will re-evaluate.

Re: The Sun: BC option will be picked up
If you read the actual text, it's pretty ambivalent. Couple that with Zicarelli being a lot less close to the Raps than he once was, and it's pretty curious. And this is the first time I've ever heard of Cope being on BC's side.
The title of this thread is more conclusive, while the headline makes the piece look more like Zicarelli's opinion amd a summary of a few past points, accurate and not so much.
It wouldn't shock me, but I'm going to wait and see.

Raptors Season Ticketholder since the 2000 playoffs, through all the lows... build to the championship high... to Tampa and back again.

I'll give Zicarelli lots of credit if he has this scoop but I'll also be stunned. And it's worth pointing out that his Sun colleague Ryan Wolstat, who's the Raptors beat guy and tweets regularly, hasn't mentioned this at all. You'd think if it was true he'd be running with it now too.

I'm with you Rhettmatic. I've changed the title because Zicarelli is never as definite as what the thread title said. It's pretty wishy washy, and honestly could be read as one guy saying he believes the option will be picked up... And could be Monday.
There could be other sources saying they believe it won't.

This is what I hate most about media. He didnt even cite sources, FWIW.
Can we sort of derail the thread abit into something you picked up on earlier?
Bell CEO George Cope, who is said to be on Colangelo’s side, was knee deep into CRTC hearings involving the Astral-Bell merger deal.
This is the same Cope who Sportsnet’s John Shannon revealed Friday that at a meeting of the board of directors of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, Raptors head coach Dwane Casey was told by, among others, George Cope, chief executive officer of BCE-Bell Canada and a former hoops player at Western University, to simply play whom he wanted to play. Figuring out the internal politics of MLSE is a fool’s game, but if it’s a sign that general manager Bryan Colangelo, and not Casey, will take the fall for another playoff miss, it is a positive development.
