Here are Grange's thoughts about what Masai could do
http://pmd.fan590.com/audio_on_demand-3 ... erview.mp3

Notable stuff
-Grange believes that Masai will look to tank for the draft next year
-Masai is looking to build assets
-Would probably try to get into this years draft

Actually, all the signs are pointing in exactly the opposite direction including words from TL which will become obvious tomorrow. Substantial change- yes, tank - not an effing chance.

All those favouring tank should be ashamed- it is not only totally distasteful but it never works.....now if u are lucky that is a different story.

I don't what you have been reading/hearing but all signs from TL indicate that he wants to re-build....
"I guess I don't think that we're 'right there,'" Leiweke said. "I don't think we're a piece away. I think we have work to do.

To me that sounds like the core is being broken up and will re-build. We have 'work' to do. I doubt that means add a back up PG and just trading Bargs.
"We need someone who is extremely rational when it comes to the roster and reaching conclusions as to who is going to work and who is not going to work (Demar-Gay?)," Leiweke said. "Sometimes you have to find a new set of eyes and a new opinion in order to judge a roster. Not be personal about a player because you chose him or you used the first pick in the first round to pick a player (Bargs). Sometimes it's easier for a guy coming in that doesn't have that loyalty and doesn't have that burden of being the guy that made that decision. You reach a better conclusion at times about who needs to stay and who needs to go."

"First and foremost, we have to figure out a way to win, how to win consistently and how to win long term. I referred to it earlier today as being a 7/11 – good enough to maybe be in the seventh or eighth spot and make the playoffs, but never good enough to win."

The core constructed the way it is is a 7/11 team therefore changes are on the horizon.
We need to do a pretty good job on decisions on trades in the organization within the next year or two.

We need to find someone who has experience and a track record and the knownledge on drafting and development

And a re-build doesn't necessarily mean a tank. I think we will take a step back though this year, that's for sure.

I don't see us purging our team so badly that we're the worse team in the league. I do see us taking a few steps back to gather the necessary young talent to build with and once we accumulate a good asset base use those assets to augment the team. Right now our only blue chip prospect we have is JV. JV alone won't make us a great team long term. We need to put good young talent around him from the lottery to grow with and make a good foundation for long term success.

Ones things sure - if we don't plan on being a playoff team (which i don't think we do) then i don't see the point in half assing anything! (We have seen what winning meaningfulness games has cost us over the years)

They should try and maximize the chances of landing the #1 pick.

If we don't finish with a top 5 pick, it would be probably total fail and waste of a year! Who knows when the next draft as strong as the 14' class will occur. I want that superstar potential, just not all-star

Players in my opinion who should be absolutely moved for picks/young cheap players/ expiring (preferably crap veterans) are:

- Lowry
- Gay
- DD

Guys like Bargnani, Fields, Kleiza should be the least of our concerns at this point.

Tanking for Wiggins solely is a fools errand. Tanking to get a very talent player in next years draft, now that's an attainable goal.

lol at tanking. Not happening unless we start the season like we did last year. Just be happy that we're going trade Bargs soon. You guys remind of the movie The Number 23 sometimes.

I agree.

It really depends on what parts of his interviews you were most interested in listening to.

I heard:

- We haven't made the playoffs in a long time, which is problematic.
- That he thinks the Leafs are in great shape & he was celebrating them simply making the playoffs.

TL is an employee of MLSE. I firmly believe MLSE badly wants to start making playoff noise.

Yes, TL stated that this team needs to be re-built. The question is how he envisions it being re-built. I think they saw a GM in Denver that was able to re-build without tanking & a GM that was able to find key players late in the draft. I think both were important aspects of Masai being the #1 target for MLSE.

He also stated that he wanted to win a championship.........eventually....

You don't win championships without superstars.
