I thought I would resurrect this thread from when we first hired Nurse. There was a lot of optimism about what he would do with the offense. We did go from being middle of the pack in terms of ORtg to consistently in the top 5. The style to get there was perhaps not what we expected. It will be interesting to see what he does as head coach.

Just thought that DH's original post was quite informative and still relevant.

Nurse's D-League teams were top two in pace.

Last year, Toronto was 13th despite being 3rd in Offensive Efficiency. Obviously, the pace you play it is dependent on your players, so it may not change that much. But, if Nurse is the hire they may look at bring more options to move the ball faster, meaning guys like Derozan or Ibaka may not be good fits.

Siakam will grab the board and run the fast break a lot more. 8-)

I noticed that during his time Nick Nurse developed Isaiah Cannon, Ish Smith, Pat Beverley. Very fast guards who can shoot and defend.

Interestingly he had Hassan Whiteside his last year, who we later tried out but failed to retain after Summer League time.

DeRozan might be okay if Nurse plays him off the ball more using screens to score and not just get open on the wing for a pass. From what I have read, Nurse's offense will have more movement and be more varied. Ibaka concerns me. He is not a quick decision maker with the ball. I'd love to move him but I can't see anyone wanting what he brings at $20M/y.

I'd be willing to move Ibaka for Batum, and take on an extra year of Batums contract for it.

Maybe take a 2nd RP to offset the money and year from CHA.

Batum is a great passer, so...being able to get him, and then somehow working out a trade for Marc Gasol would mean great passing, respectable defence and shooting.

JV, Delon, Richardson, 2nd RP for Gasol and Green

Ibaka for Batum and 2nd RP

Lowry / VanVleet
Derozan / Powell
Batum / Anunoby
Green / Siakam
Gasol / Poeltl

Take VC/Amir on a Min Contract, and mix that with some 2Way Players.

True. But if ibaka is our 5 alongside 4 other guys that can make quick reads, it's less of a problem. Playing alongside a jv, who was improving in this regards but isn't quite there yet, will expose ibakas weaknesses more. Ibaka is a 5 now..simple as that.

They wouldn't give up both green and gasol. Doubt they'll trade gasol but I've been wanting it. Throw in a throw away player alongside gasol instead. Anyways put batum or og as the 4 in that lineup (can not bench og. No way) and we've got something.

Nurse becomes Casey's assistant
"Culture change"

Expect that pace to go up this year. I think we'll be very fun to watch, at the very least.

You're right, having Serge and JV as the front line is a big part of the problem. I hope that Pascal can improve his 3 point shooting so we don't need to see that pairing nearly as often.
