Pardon me, but how is this measured? Is it measured on aggregate with people having special set top boxes? I'm quite unsure, but if it's something like that - I know nobody who has one of those boxes. I wonder how many young people have one. I also wonder about the demographics and selection process. This business of curling and the CFL outdrawing the raptors is hard for me to fathom.
I believe in Masai.

Like, I don't have a single friend that doesn't have HD tv by now, and if you are getting HDTV and want HD channels, you typically have SN1/2 and TSN2 from bell/rogers/w.e

Guess everyone on realgm is cheap as ****.

I don't think it being on these other channels would literally kill the ratings... i mean, we don't even pull 1/10th of the argo's..

IE. With Bell Services, if you have Sportsnet, you have Sportsnet one / 360 / whatever. there is no package with JUST SPORTSNET anymore.

Hahahah I'm one step from throwing out the TV and saying see ya later forever

I don't have SN1 or TSN2 because it's an extra $30/mth to get a package that includes those channels. If the system was a la carte, I'd purchase both. Something has to give if they want better viewership.

heres something I dug up from Jan 2012.

While the sample size is small, ratings for the post-NBA lockout Raptors are well ahead of last season’s averages. According to the team, after three games, TSN was averaging 184,000 viewers compared to 150,000 last year. After five games, TSN2 was averaging 104,000 viewers compared to 96,000 last year.

Rogers Sportsnet, after four games was averaging 198,500 viewers compared to 135,000 last year. And, after just one game, Sportsnet One/Ontario’s Jan. 2 game against the New York Knicks averaged 159,000 viewers compared to 67,000 on the channel last year.

I thought that Rogers messed up the guide. That it must be here. Come on!

Awful ratings, but you have to factor World Series game 6 going on. PLUS a Leafs game.

Didn't the home opener last year or the year before have like 100k viewers?

It is a little disingenuous to be looking at that game in isolation. Up against the deciding game of the world series, no casual sports fans would watch us play a faceless Celtics team, even with Olynyk coming off the bench.

But I'd expect tonight's game, up against HNIC, to be a sub-par TSN performance.

@simmonssteve: Television ratings from opening night of each season. Leafs 2.3 million. Jays 1.4 million. Argos 673,000. Raptors 54,000. More in Sunday column

We went to a bar and asked if we could be seated by a tv with the raps game and the hostesses response was like she didn't even know the raptors were playing.

Also the last game of the World Series was on at the same time as well as a leafs game so that could have contributed.

Rogers had a promotion. Box with 2 to 999 (ppv and on demand channels not included ofc) for 55$ a month for the first six months. It has all those sports channels.

I wasn't gonna waste my time watching the game. I want them to tank, so I just follow the box score hoping we lose.

To move forward, raptors must hit rockbottom... its the only way.

Shooting for last place would be the best thing to EVER happen to the raptors.

End the treadmill.. we the raptor fans will not stand for it.

IMO, these dismal ratings are Colangelo's legacy and the primary reason he was fired.

Over his tenure, Bryan talked a good game, but did nothing to build the Raptors brand in Toronto or across Canada. His team's were mediocre and there was nothing to make casual fans say 'I need to check out the Raptors'.

I went to the home opener with my son. The next day I asked him if he talked to anyone at high school about the Raps v Celtics game. His answer was 'no - no one cares about the Raptors.' Even my son, (who is a 6'2" starting small forward on his high school team) is more interested in the NHL than he is in the Raptors.

So after 19 seasons, the Raptors brand is pretty much irrelevant. Masai and Leiweke have their work cut out for them.

Are you sure that isn't a typo? 54 K is very hard to believe. Maybe, it's 540 K?

Simmons had a lot of people suggesting that. He confirmed it is absolutely not a typo. And the numbers come straight from the source (CTV/TSN2).

I'm still trying to figure out how the Argo's got 673,000 for there home opener. I know there is
nothing on in the summer but still that seems a little fishy. I remember the Argo's Grey Cup parade
downtown last year and it had about 100 people at it. The rest of Canada must really love the CFL.

As for the Raptors Stoudamire, McGrady, Carter and Bosh leaving town has done major damage to
our fan base specifically fair weather fans. It kind of deflated them and when you have star players
constantly turning their backs on you it's hard for them to be fans of the team and they start to
think of the franchise as a joke.

Leiweke, Drake and Ujiri have their hands full.
